Emanuele Di Gregorio
Emanuele Di Gregorio (born 13 December 1980 in Castellammare del Golfo, Sicily) is a track and field sprint athlete who competes internationally for Italy. Biography Di Gregorio represented Italy at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. He competed in the 4×100 metres relay together with Fabio Cerutti, Simone Collio and Jacques Riparelli. In their qualification heat they were disqualified and eliminated. He achieved a new personal best at the 2009 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Turin with a 6.56-second run for the 60 metres dash. A photo-finish revealed he came in third just ahead of Great Britain's Simeon Williamson (6.57). He succeeded at the regional level with a silver medal in the 100 m at the 2009 Mediterranean Games, before adding the relay gold to his honours. 2009 World Championships In Athletics
The 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics () were held in Berlin, Germany from 15–23 August 2009. The majority of events took place in the Olympiastadion, while the marathon and racewalking events started and finished at the Brandenburg Gate. Organization Bidding process Berlin was announced the winning bidder by the IAAF on 6 December 2004 beating out bids from Split (Croatia), Valencia (Spain), Brisbane (Australia), Brussels (Belgium), Delhi (India), Casablanca (Morocco) and Daegu (South Korea). Simeon Oscar Williamson (born 16 January 1986) is an English bobsledder and former track and field sprinter who specialised in the 100 metres., beijing2008.cn, ret: 26 August 2008 Williamson, a London native, is the second cousin to 2008 Beijing Olympics silver medalist British high jumper Germaine Mason. He is coached by Lloyd Cowan, and his athletics club is Highgate Harriers. He is a former British 100 metres champion. Career He won the silver at the European Junior Championships in 2005, 1/100th of a second behind Craig Pickering, to complete a British 1–2–3 with third placed Alex Nelson. In 2007 he became European Athletics Under-23 Champion in the 100 m, clocking a personal best of 10.10 seconds and edging out compatriot Pickering in a British 1–2. 60 Metres
60 metres, or 60-meter dash, is a sprint event in track and field. It is a championship event for indoor championships, normally dominated by the best outdoor 100 metres runners. At outdoor venues it is a rare distance, at least for senior athletes. The format of the event is similar to other sprint distances. The sprinters follow three initial instructions: 'ready', instructing them to take up position in the starting blocks; 'set', instructing them to adopt a more efficient starting posture, which also isometrically preloads their muscles. This will enable them to start faster. The final instruction is the firing of the starter's pistol. Upon hearing this the sprinters stride forwards from the blocks. The 60 metres was an Olympic event in the 1900 and 1904 Summer Games but was removed from the schedule thereafter. Jacques Riparelli (born 27 March 1983 in Yaoundé, Cameroon) is a track and field sprint athlete who competes internationally for Italy. Biography His father is Italian, mother is Cameroonian. Jacques Riparelli moved with his family to Italy at the age of four. Riparelli represented Italy at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. He competed at the 4x100 metres relay together with Fabio Cerutti, Simone Collio and Emanuele di Gregorio. In their qualification heat they were disqualified and eliminated. Fabio Cerutti (born 26 September 1985 in Turin) is an Italian sprinter who specializes in the 100 metres. Biography He finished sixth in 60 metres at the 2007 European Indoor Championships. He also competed at the 2008 World Indoor Championships and the 2008 Olympic Games without reaching the final round. In Beijing he finished 5th in his heat in 10.49 seconds., beijing2008.cn, ret: Aug 24, 2008 Together with Simone Collio, Emanuele di Gregorio and Jacques Riparelli he also took part in the 4 x 100 metres relay, but they were disqualified in the first round.
