The Elzey Hughes House was a building located at 308 Second Street in Falmouth, Kentucky. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. It was built for Elzey Hughes, a son of Charity Southgate and was significant as one of the few remaining buildings of Falmouth's Racial segregation in the United States, segregated black district, Happy Hollow, Falmouth, Happy Hollow. Falmouth is a home rule-class city in, and the county seat of, Pendleton County, Kentucky, in the United States. The population was 2,169 according to the 2010 census. It lies at the confluence of the South and Main forks of the Licking River and is home to Kincaid Regional Theatre. Geography Falmouth is located at (38.673860, -84.334213). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , all land. History Possibly settled as early as 1780, Falmouth was laid out by John Waller (1758–1823) and formally established by the state assembly in 1793. Charity's House
Charity's House, at 108 Montjoy St. in Falmouth, Kentucky, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. Deemed notable in black history, it was home of Charity Southgate, from whom most of black population in Falmouth descended. She bought the lot in 1845 after gaining her freedom from slavery, and built this house soon after. It was in the Happy Hollow neighborhood. She built several other houses on the block for her children and grandchildren. With The house no longer is on the site.Per photo.
