Elvis Kholwana Siwela is a South African politician who was an African National Congress Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from 2014 to 2017 and again from 2019 until 2023. Background Siwela earned a master's degree in Public Management from Regenesys Business School. He served on the provincial executive committee (PEC) of the African National Congress in Mpumalanga. Parliamentary career In 2014 he was elected to the National Assembly of South Africa from the ANC's Mpumalanga list. Siwela was appointed to serve on the Portfolio Committee on Telecommunications and Postal Services and the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training. Mpumalanga ( ss, iMpumalanga) is one of the nine multi-member constituencies of the National Assembly of South Africa, the lower house of the Parliament of South Africa, the national legislature of South Africa. The constituency was established as Eastern Transvaal in 1994 when the National Assembly was established by the Interim Constitution following the end of Apartheid. It was renamed Mpumalanga in 1999. It is conterminous with the province of Mpumalanga. 2014 South African General Election
General elections were held in South Africa on 7 May 2014, to elect a new National Assembly and new provincial legislatures in each province. It was the fifth election held in South Africa under conditions of universal adult suffrage since the end of the apartheid era in 1994, and also the first held since the death of Nelson Mandela. It was also the first time that South African expatriates were allowed to vote in a South African national election. The National Assembly election was won by the African National Congress (ANC), but with a reduced majority of 62.1%, down from 65.9% in the 2009 election. The official opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) increased its share of the vote from 16.7% to 22.2%, while the newly formed Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) obtained 6.4% of the vote. National Assembly Of South Africa
The National Assembly is the directly elected house of the Parliament of South Africa, located in Cape Town, Western Cape. It consists of four hundred members who are elected every five years using a party-list proportional representation system where half of the members are elected proportionally from nine provincial lists and the remaining half from national lists so as to restore proportionality. The National Assembly is presided over by a Speaker, assisted by a Deputy Speaker.
