Saint Eluned ( cy, Eiliwedd; la, Almedha or ''Elevetha''), also known as Aled and by other names, was a 5th- or 6th-century virgin martyr from modern Brecon. George Phillips, writing for the ''Catholic Encyclopedia'', calls her "the Luned of the ''Mabinogion'' and the Lynette of Tennyson's '' Gareth and Lynette''.". Legend One of the many daughters of King Brychan of Brycheiniog in South Wales (a sub-Roman monarch who embraced the new faith of Christianity), Eluned became a Christian at a young age. She spurned the advances of a pagan prince and, like many women of her time, ran away to avoid being forced into the relationship. Eluned Morgan (20 March 1870 – 29 December 1938), was a Welsh-language author from Patagonia. She was raised in Y Wladfa, a Welsh colony in Patagonia, and was taught to speak both Welsh and Spanish. Her father eventually enrolled her in Dr Williams' School in Wales, where she had to learn the English language. She led student protests against the school's English-only policy, which prohibited the use of Welsh by its students. As a writer, Morgan is primarily remembered for two travel books which described journeys to Patagonia and to the Andes. Her book ''Dringo'r Andes'' also covered in detail the relations between different ethnic groups. Otherwise, Morgan is remembered for writing a history of the Incas. Mair Eluned Morgan, Baroness Morgan of Ely (born 16 February 1967) is a Welsh Labour politician serving as Minister for Health and Social Services in the Welsh Government since 2021. Morgan has served as a Member of the House of Lords since 2011 and as a Member of the Senedd (MS) since 2016. She was previously Minister for the Welsh Language from 2017 to 2021, Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing from 2020 to 2021, and a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 1994 to 2009. Eluned Parrott (born 1974) is a Welsh Liberal Democrat politician. She was an Assembly Member (AM) of the National Assembly for Wales between 2011 and 2016. She is a Commissioner of the National Infrastructure Commission for Wales. Biography Eluned was born in Abergavenny. She studied at St Peter's Collegiate School, in Wolverhampton. Parrott gained a degree in music from Cardiff University, and has a postgraduate diploma in marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Eluned Phillips (27 October 1914 – 10 January 2009) was the only woman to win the bardic crown at the National Eisteddfod of Wales twice, a feat she accomplished in 1967 at Bala and 1983 at Llangefni. Phillips was born in Cenarth, on the same day that Dylan Thomas was born in Swansea. She knew Thomas well, but did not number him among her close friends. Eluned "Lyn" Woodford-Williams (12 September 1913 – 25 November 1984) was a British geriatrician. As the leader of the geriatric unit at Sunderland, she was a pioneer in geriatric medicine and geriatric psychiatry. Early life Eluned Woodford-Williams was born on 12 September 1913 in Liverpool. She was the eldest of four daughters born to John Woodford-Williams, a dentist, and Edith Mary Stevens. She began her schooling at Liverpool College, and after her family moved to Wales she attended Cardiff High School for Girls. She received a BSc from the Welsh National School of Medicine in 1933 before moving to London to complete her clinical training at University College Hospital, graduating as MBBS in 1936.
