Eltingville, Staten Island
Eltingville is a neighborhood in the Staten Island borough of New York City, United States. It is located on Staten Island's South Shore, immediately to the south of Great Kills and north of Annadale. The main commercial area of Eltingville extends down Richmond Avenue, with offshoots heading north on Amboy Road and Hylan Boulevard. Eltingville is represented in the New York State Senate by Andrew Lanza, in the New York State Assembly by Michael Reilly, and in the New York City Council by Joe Borelli. History Originally called South Side, and later Seaside, the neighborhood owes its present name to a prominent family by the name of Elting which settled there in the early 19th century. It was the southern terminus of the Staten Island Railway until 1860, when the line was extended to Tottenville. The Eltingville station is an elevated Staten Island Railway station in the neighborhood of Eltingville, Staten Island, New York. It is located at Richmond Avenue on the main line. History The station opened on April 23, 1860, with the opening of the Staten Island Railway from Vanderbilt's Landing to Eltingville. The station was rebuilt in 1939 as part of a grade crossing elimination project. Station layout The station contains two side platforms and orange canopies and walls. ''Eltingville'' (also referred to as ''The Eltingville Club'') is the name given to a series of comics created by Evan Dorkin. The series ran in his comic books ''Dork'' and ''House of Fun'' before it received a two-issue run through Dark Horse Comics in 2014. ''Eltingville'' was adapted into a pilot for Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block in 2002, but was not picked up for an official series. The series has won three Eisner Awards, beginning with the 1995 story ''Bring Me the Head of Boba Fett''. Of the series' title, Dorkin chose to name the series ''Eltingville'' after Eltingville, Staten Island, where he worked off and on in a comic book store for six years. Synopsis The ''Eltingville'' comics surround a group of four teen boys (Bill, Pete, Josh, and Jerry) in Eltingville, Staten Island, who are interested in various elements of geek culture, with each character showing a specific interest in one area.
