Elsmere, Delaware
Elsmere is a town in New Castle County, Delaware, United States, bordering the city of Wilmington along Wilmington's western border. According to the 2010 Census, the population of the town is 6,131. History Elsmere dates back to 1886 when real estate developer Joshua Heald bought farmland and converted it into houses, building the first suburb in northern Delaware. The community was built at an intersection of railroad lines and allowed working-class families easy access to Wilmington. Trolley lines were later built leading to Elsmere. In 1909, Elsmere was incorporated as a town. During the 1910s, the Delaware State Fair Association purchased land and built a new fairgrounds within Elsmere's town limit. The grounds, including a racecourse for horses, cars and motorcycles, were located south of New Road and Wilmington Avenue and west of the previously established streets. Elsmere is a home rule-class city in Kenton County, Kentucky, in the United States. The population was 8,451 at the 2010 census. Geography Elsmere is located in western Kenton County at (39.001475, -84.603116). It is bordered to the north and east by Erlanger, to the south by Independence, and to the west by Florence in Boone County. The Dixie Highway (U.S. Routes 25, 42, and 127) forms the northern border of the city and leads northeast to Covington and southwest to the center of Florence. According to the United States Census Bureau, Elsmere has a total area of , of which , or 0.73%, are water. History The community was first settled in 1885 as "South Erlanger". Elsmere is an unincorporated area, unincorporated community in southeastern Cherry County, Nebraska, Cherry County, Nebraska, United States. It lies along local roads southeast of the city of Valentine, Nebraska, Valentine, the county seat of Cherry County. Its elevation is 2,687 feet (819 m). History A post office was established at Elsmere in 1899, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1992. The community was likely named after the novel ''Robert Elsmere'' by Mary Augusta Ward, Mrs. Humphry Ward. Elsmere is a hamlet of the town of the Bethlehem in Albany County, New York, United States. The hamlet is a suburb of the neighboring city of Albany. From the northeast to the southwest, it is bisected by New York Route 443 (Delaware Avenue), which is also the hamlet's main street and a major commuter route into Albany.
