Arthur Elrod
Arthur Dea Elrod, Jr. (August 8, 1924 – February 18, 1974) was an American interior designer, perhaps best known for the Elrod House in Palm Springs, California designed by the architect John Lautner and built for Elrod in 1968. Early life Elrod was born in Anderson, South Carolina, grew up on a farm, and studied design at South Carolina's Clemson University, before attending the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles. Career In 1954, Elrod and Harold "Hal" Broderick started Arthur Elrod and Associates, an interior design firm on Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs, and went on to hire William C. Raiser, Steve Chase, and others. Personal life In 1968, architect John Lautner built a home for Elrod in Palm Springs, California that became known as the Elrod House. The Union Trade
The Union Trade is an American Indie rock band formed in San Francisco, California, in 2006. An early and leading member of the Bay Area post-rock scene, The Union Trade is also the founding band of San Francisco independent music label, Tricycle Records. Since its inception, the band's line-up has included Nate Munger (lead vocals, bass), Don Joslin (guitar), and Eric Salk (vocals, guitar, keys). The founding drummer was Dan Rodkewich. The band's current drummer, Eitan Anzenberg, has been with the band since 2012. Henry Talmage Elrod
Henry Talmage "Hammerin' Hank" Elrod (September 27, 1905December 23, 1941) was a US Marine Corps aviator. He was the first aviator to receive the Medal of Honor during World War II, for his heroism in the defense of Wake Island. Marine Corps service Elrod was born on September 27, 1905, in Turner County, Georgia. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in December 1927, and was appointed a Marine second lieutenant in February 1931. He attended the University of Georgia and Yale University prior to his entry into the Marine Corps. Following over a year at the Marine Corps Basic School in Philadelphia as a student aviator, Lieutenant Elrod was ordered to the Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida. There he served as a company officer and as student aviator. Jack Elrod
Jack Elrod (March 29, 1924 – February 16, 2016) was an American cartoonist best known for the comic strip '' Mark Trail''. The creator of ''Mark Trail'', Ed Dodd, began the strip in 1946. Elrod began working on the strip as an artist in 1950, then in 1978 when Dodd's eyesight failed he turned the strip over to Jack Elrod, who continued to draw it under both their names. Elrod lived his whole life in Georgia and worked for King Features Syndicate for 64 years before dying in his sleep at age 91 in his home near Atlanta on February 3, 2016. Jonathan "Jon" Robert Elrod (born May 3, 1977) is an American attorney and politician. He is a former member of the Indiana House of Representatives from District 97. He was the Republican Party candidate in the Indiana's 7th congressional district special election held on March 11, 2008, to fill a vacant seat, losing to Democrat André Carson. Early years Jon Elrod grew up on the Southside area of Indianapolis. He graduated from Franklin Central High School in 1995. In 1999, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree (magna cum laude) from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio where he majored in history, minored in Performance Studies (Theater). Morton John Elrod
Morton John Elrod (27 April 1863 - 19 January 1953) was an American ecologist and professor at the University of Montana. He founded the Flathead Lake Biological Station in 1899. It was established to encourage research and field education and has been the site of numerous long-term biological studies. He was also appointed by the American Bison Society to examine potential reserves in Montana which led to the establishment of the National Bison Range. A keen photographer and researcher, he conducted research and wrote several books on a variety of topics. A number of species have been named in Elrod's honor by researchers. Elrod was born in Monongahela, Pennsylvania, the son of John Morton Elrod. He went to Simpson College from where he received a BA (1887) after which he taught at a high school in Corydon, Iowa. Richard J. Elrod (February 17, 1934 – April 19, 2014) was an American jurist, sheriff, and legislator. Biography Born to a Jewish family in Chicago, Illinois, Elrod received his bachelor's and law degrees from Northwestern University. Elrod's father was Arthur X. Elrod, a Democratic Party operative who would go on to serve as a Cook County Commissioner and Chicago's 25th ward's committeeman. Elrod was Chicago's Assistant Corporation Counsel from 1958 through 1970, and its Chief City Prosecutor from 1960 through 1970. Elrod served in the Illinois House of Representatives, in 1969, as a Democrat. While serving in the Illinois General Assembly, Elrod was seriously injured and left paralyzed while helping a Chicago police officer capture a man during the Days of Rage conflict in 1969.
