Elmont Station
Elmont, also referred to as Elmont–UBS Arena, is a Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) station on the border of Elmont and Bellerose Terrace in Nassau County, New York, just east of the New York City borough of Queens. It serves the LIRR Main Line and is being developed as part of the redevelopment of Belmont Park, which includes the new UBS Arena for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League. The station opened for eastbound service in November 2021 and westbound service in October 2022. History Plans for the station were first announced in July 2019 by then-New York governor Andrew Cuomo. New York Arena Partners, the main party behind the Belmont Park redevelopment, will pay $97 million of the estimated $105 million cost, with the balance being paid by the state. Elmont, New York
Elmont is an unincorporated hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) located in northwestern Hempstead in Nassau County, New York, United States, along its border with the borough of Queens in New York City. The population was 35,265 at the 2020 census. The hamlet is famous for Belmont Park which hosts the Belmont Stakes, the third leg of the prestigious Triple Crown of thoroughbred racing. Floral Park Station
Floral Park is a Long Island Rail Road train station in Floral Park, New York, at Tulip and Atlantic Avenues, on the Main Line and Hempstead Branch just west of their split. Most trains serving this station run to or from Hempstead, but limited Main Line trains stop here on weekday mornings. The station is ADA accessible as of July 16, 2021. History The first Floral Park station was built between October and November 1878 as "Stewart Junction," for the junction between the LIRR Main Line and the Central Railroad of Long Island built by Alexander Turney Stewart. Hempstead Branch
The Hempstead Branch is an electrified rail line and service owned and operated by the Long Island Rail Road in the U.S. state of New York. The branch begins at the Main Line at Queens Interlocking, just east of Queens Village station. It parallels the Main Line past Bellerose to Floral Park, where it splits southward and continues east via the village of Garden City to Hempstead Crossing. There it turns south to the final two stations, Country Life Press and Hempstead. LIRR maps and schedules show Hempstead Branch service continuing west along the Main Line to Jamaica. Southampton Campus Station
Southampton Campus was a rail station located along the Montauk Branch of the Long Island Rail Road. Originally a seasonal flag stop called Golf Grounds, it opened April 1907 to serve sites such as the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club and National Golf Links of America and was closed in 1938. In order to serve the Long Island University's Southampton College (now owned by Stony Brook University) it reopened on May 24, 1976. It was discontinued as a station stop and removed on March 16, 1998, due to low usage, along with a handful of other Long Island Rail Road stations. Belmont Park
Belmont Park is a major thoroughbred horse racing facility in the northeastern United States, located in Elmont, New York, just east of the New York City limits. It was opened on May 4, 1905. It is operated by the non-profit New York Racing Association, as are the Aqueduct Racetrack and Saratoga Race Course.
