Elmer Julius Boeseke, Jr. (August 5, 1895 – October 17, 1963) was an American polo player who competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics. He was born in Santa Barbara, California. In 1924 he won the silver medal with the American team in the Olympic polo tournament. Polo At The Summer Olympics
Polo was introduced in the Summer Olympics at the 1900 Games. It was contested in another four Olympiads before being removed from the official programme after the 1936 Summer Olympics. Polo declined in relative popularity around the time of World War II due at least in part to the logistical and financial difficulties of competing in the sport. The 1924 Summer Olympics (french: Jeux olympiques d'été de 1924), officially the Games of the VIII Olympiad (french: Jeux de la VIIIe olympiade) and also known as Paris 1924, were an international multi-sport event held in Paris, France. The opening ceremony was held on 5 July, but some competitions had already started on 4 May. The Games were the second to be hosted by Paris (after 1900), making it the first city to host the Olympics twice. The selection process for the 1924 Summer Olympics consisted of six bids, and Paris was selected ahead of Amsterdam, Barcelona, Los Angeles, Prague, and Rome. The competition ran from 28 June to 12 July at the Château de Bagatelle and the Saint-Cloud Racecourse, with five teams competing. Argentina won the gold medal, beating all four of the other nations in the country's Olympic polo debut. Polo is a ball game played on horseback, a traditional field sport and one of the world's oldest known team sports.
