Elm Grove is an unincorporated community at the northern edge of Wharton County, in the U.S. state of Texas. The very small community is situated on Farm to Market Road 2614, (FM 2614) to the south of Eagle Lake, which is in Colorado County. History Elm Grove is located approximately northwest of Wharton. A 1936 county roadmap noted that there were several homes in the area. By the 1980s there were still two commercial establishments, a few houses, a cemetery, and a church. Geography Elm Grove is on FM 2614, a distance of to the west of Farm to Market Road 102 (FM 102) at Bonus. The Elm Grove Cemetery is north-northeast of FM 2614 at County Road 267. Bonus is an unincorporated community in northern Wharton County, Texas, United States located about north of Wharton near the intersection of Farm to Market Road 102 and Farm to Market Road 2614. History Bonus began in the mid-1890s. The construction of the Cane Belt Railroad ended at the a Wharton County plantation site owned by W. L. Dunovant and William Thomas Eldridge, who were among the people who chartered the railroad. In 1896 the community applied for a post office and requested the name "Alamo." That name was not approved. The '' Handbook of Texas'' states that Bonus became the name "reportedly" since the owners of the railroad were promised a bonus if they built into the area. The Bonus post office opened in 1896. Dunovant and Eldridge brought African American families to grow cotton, corn, rice, and sugar cane. In its early history Bonus had relatively few White American residents. Farm to Market Road 102 (FM 102) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas. The highway begins at State Highway 60 (SH 60) in Wharton in Wharton County. It heads northwest through Eagle Lake in Colorado County and ends at Interstate 10 (I-10) near Alleyton, which is just east of Columbus in Colorado County.
