James Ellison (footballer, Born 1901)
James Ellison (17 March 1901 – 5 January 1958) was an English professional footballer who played as a full-back for various clubs, including Southampton and Rochdale, in the 1920s. Football career Ellison was born in St Helens, Lancashire and played his early football as an amateur with St Helens YMCA, Tranmere Rovers, Rotherham County and Rhyl United before he moved to the south coast to join Southampton in May 1927. After a satisfactory trial period, Ellison signed a professional contract in October 1927. He spent most of his time with the Saints in the reserves, making 59 appearances in his year at The Dell. His only first-team appearance came on 10 March 1928, when he took the place of Arthur Bradford at right-back for the game against Port Vale; the match was lost 2–1. James Ellison (born James Ellison Smith; May 4, 1910 – December 23, 1993) was an American film actor who appeared in nearly 70 films from 1932 to 1962. Biography Ellison was born in Guthrie Center, Iowa, the son of Edward James Smith and Ona Mary Ellis. He worked for a time in a film laboratory and while there was offered a screen test. He developed the film footage himself, and after he saw it, decided it was not satisfactory so he would not show it to the director. But the director saw it anyway and Ellison got a contract. He spent much of his career in westerns, including a stint in the mid-1930s as Johnny Nelson, the sidekick of Hopalong Cassidy in Paramount's highly successful series. Although he was a "supporting player" in the series, his name is oddly billed the same size and format as veteran actor and matinee idol William Boyd's. USS ''Harold J. Ellison'' (DD-864) was a in service with the United States Navy from 1945 to 1983. She was then transferred to Pakistan and renamed ''Shah Jahan'' (D-164). The ship was finally sunk as a target in 1994. Namesake Harold John Ellison (17 January 1917 – 4 June 1942) was born in Buffalo, New York. He was appointed Ensign 20 October 1941 after completing flight training. Soon afterwards he reported to Torpedo Squadron 8 on board the aircraft carrier . Glenn David Ellison (born 1965) is an American economist who is Gregory K. Palm Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and an Elected Fellow of the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory and American Academy of Arts & Sciences.
