Elliot Yorke
The Hon. Captain Eliot Constantine Yorke DL MP (13 July 1843 – 21 December 1878), was a British politician and courtier. Background Yorke was the fourth son of Admiral Charles Philip Yorke, 4th Earl of Hardwicke, and the Hon. Susan, daughter of Thomas Liddell, 1st Baron Ravensworth. Political career The Conservative Party adopted Yorke as their candidate at a meeting in Cambridge in October 1873. Yorke was returned to Parliament as one of three representatives for Cambridgeshire in 1874 (succeeding his elder brother Lord Royston), a seat he held until his early death four years later. He was also a Captain in the Cambridgeshire Militia, an Equerry to His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh and a Deputy Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire. Lord George Manners
Lord George John Manners (22 June 1820, in London – 8 September 1874, in Cheveley) was a British nobleman and Conservative Party politician who represented Cambridgeshire for over two decades, from 1847 to 1857 and from 1863 to 1874, when he died. He was a younger son of John Manners, 5th Duke of Rutland by Lady Elizabeth Howard, daughter of Frederick Howard, 5th Earl of Carlisle. Charles Manners, 6th Duke of Rutland was his elder brother. He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he was a member of the University Pitt Club. He married Lady Adeliza Matilda Fitzalan-Howard, daughter of Henry Fitzalan-Howard, 13th Duke of Norfolk, on 4 October 1855. Edward Hicks (MP)
Edward Hicks (1814 – 13 January 1889), born Edward Simpson, was an English Conservative Party politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1879 to 1885. Hicks was the son of Edward Simpson of Lichfield and his wife Elizabeth Anderson, daughter of William Anderson of Moseley, Worcestershire. He was educated at Charterhouse School and at Corpus Christi College, Oxford. In 1835 he changed his name from Simpson to Hicks. He entered Inner Temple in 1837. He was a J.P. and Deputy Lieutenant for Cambridgeshire. In 1862 he was High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire and vice-chairman of the Quarter Sessions. He was chairman of the local Chamber of Agriculture. Hicks was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Cambridgeshire at a by-election in January 1879 following the death of Elliot Yorke MP. Benjamin Rodwell
Benjamin Bridges Hunter Rodwell QC (17 January 1815 – 6 February 1892) was a British lawyer and Conservative politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1874 to 1881. Rodwell was the son of William Rodwell, an Ipswich banker, and his wife Elizabeth Anne Hunter, daughter of Benjamin Hunter of Glencarse, Perthshire. Benjamin Rodwell was educated at Charterhouse School and Trinity College, Cambridge, before being admitted at Inner Temple and called to the bar at Middle Temple in 1840. He served on the South-Eastern Circuit. In 1858, he became a Queen's Counsel and Bencher of his Inn. He was a J.P. and Deputy Lieutenant of Suffolk and Chairman of the quarter sessions. Rodwell was elected as a Member of Parliament for Cambridgeshire in 1874, was reelected in 1879 and resigned in 1881. He was married to Mary Packer Boggis, daughter of James Boggis, in 1844. Henry Bouverie William Brand, 1st Viscount Hampden (24 December 181414 March 1892), was a British Liberal politician. He served as Speaker of the House of Commons from 1872 to 1884. Hamble-le-Rice is a village and civil parish in the Borough of Eastleigh in Hampshire, England. It is best known for being an aircraft training centre during the Second World War and is a popular yachting location. The village and the River Hamble also featured in the 1980s BBC television series ''Howards' Way''. Admiral Charles Philip Yorke, 4th Earl of Hardwicke, PC (2 April 1799 – 17 September 1873) was a British naval commander and Conservative politician. Background Born at Sydney Lodge, in Hamble le Rice, Hardwicke was the eldest son of Admiral Sir Joseph Sydney Yorke, second son of Charles Yorke, Lord Chancellor, by his second wife, Agneta Johnson. He was a nephew of Philip Yorke, 3rd Earl of Hardwicke. He was educated at Harrow and at the Royal Naval College, where he was awarded the second medal. Naval career Hardwicke entered the Royal Navy in May 1815 as midshipman on , the flagship at Spithead.
