Elizabeth Street, Brisbane
Elizabeth Street is a major street in the centre of the city in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The street was one of the earliest in Brisbane being established at the beginning of settlement in Brisbane as Moreton Bay penal settlement. Today, most of the street is fronted by low-level retail outlets, with an increase in mixed use skyscrapers being recently constructed. Geography Major shopping arcades on Elizabeth Street include The Myer Centre, Marcarthur Central and the Elizabeth Arcade. The Brisbane Hilton hotel has it main entrance on Elizabeth Street. The offices at Central Plaza Two have their entrance at the easterly end or downtown part of the street. There is good pedestrian access around the street, such as pathways near the General Post Office and access to the Queen Street bus station via the Myer Centre. Riverside Expressway
The Riverside Expressway is part of the Pacific Motorway that runs through Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is located on the western side of the Brisbane CBD and is made up of various bridges and overpasses. The North Bank development is proposed to alleviate the visual disruption of the expressway and recapture Brisbane for pedestrians. The Expressway runs the entire western length of the Brisbane CBD from Coronation Drive to the Captain Cook Bridge at Gardens Point, an estimated before becoming the Pacific Motorway which ends at the Gold Coast. Perry House is a heritage-listed office building at 167 Albert Street (corner of Elizabeth Street), Brisbane City, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Claude William Chambers and built from 1911 to 1923 by Thomas Keenan. It is also known as Royal Albert Apartments. Tara House
Tara House is a heritage-listed club house at 179 Elizabeth Street, Brisbane City, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Richard Gailey and built from to 1928. It was also known as the Irish Club, which owned and operated the building from 1919 to 2015. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. It has now been converted to a cinema complex by the Sourris brothers retaining many of the original historical aspects of the building and its long history as the Brisbane Irish Club. Theatre Royal, Brisbane
The Theatre Royal was the first theatre in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It opened in 1865. It was designed by Andrea Strombuco. History Brisbane's first licensed theatre was opened at 80 Elizabeth Street by George Birkbeck Mason in 1865 and eventually named the Victoria Theatre. It was closed in 1880 and rebuilt, opening on 18 April 1881 as the Theatre Royal. It was again remodelled in 1911 when electric lights were installed. In 1940 it was again renovated and the theatre was occupied by U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. A small number of revues for American servicemen were offered during this time.
