Elizabeth Noel, Viscountess Campden
Elizabeth Noel, Viscountess Campden (1640 – July 1683), formerly Lady Elizabeth Bertie, was the fourth wife of Baptist Noel, 3rd Viscount Campden, and the mother of nine of his children. Lady Elizabeth was the daughter of Montagu Bertie, 2nd Earl of Lindsey, and his first wife, Martha Ramsay (née Cockayne), Dowager Countess of Holderness. Her siblings included Robert Bertie, 3rd Earl of Lindsey, Hon. Peregrine Bertie, Hon. Richard Bertie, Hon. Vere Bertie and Hon. Charles Bertie, as well as two sisters. Elizabeth married Viscount Campden on 6 July 1655, when she was 15 and he was in his forties; he had been widowed three times, and had at least four surviving children, including his heir, Edward. Baptist Noel, 3rd Viscount Campden (1611 – 29 October 1682) was an English politician. He was Lord Lieutenant of Rutland, Custos Rotulorum of Rutland and the Member of Parliament for Rutland. Early life Baptist Noel was born at Exton Hall, Rutland the son of Edward Noel, 2nd Viscount Campden and the former Hon. Juliana Hicks. His younger brother, Hon. Henry Noel, married Mary Perry. His sister, Hon. Elizabeth Noel, was the wife of John Chaworth, 2nd Viscount Chaworth, and other sister, Hon. Mary Noel, was the wife of Sir Erasmus de la Fontaine, of Kirby Ballers. John Manners, 1st Duke Of Rutland
John Manners, 1st Duke of Rutland and 9th Earl of Rutland (29 May 163810 January 1711) was a British MP, and Whig politician. His divorce from his first wife caused much comment, partly because it was thought to have political implications. Life He was born at Boughton, Northamptonshire, the son of John Manners, 8th Earl of Rutland, and Frances Montagu. His maternal grandparents were Sir Edward Montagu, 1st Baron Montagu of Boughton, and his wife Elizabeth Jeffries. He was styled Lord Roos from 1641 until 1679. Exton, Rutland
Exton is a village in Rutland, England. The population was 607 at the 2011 census. The civil parish was abolished in 2016 and merged with Horn to form Exton and Horn. The village The village's name means 'farm/settlement which has oxen'. The village includes a tree-planted green overlooked by the Fox and Hounds pub. Close to the green is the war memorial to the dead of Exton and Whitwell and to relatives of the Earl of Gainsborough; the names include Tom Cecil Noel MC and Bar and Maurice Dease VC. Peter Lely
Sir Peter Lely (14 September 1618 – 7 December 1680) was a painter of Dutch origin whose career was nearly all spent in England, where he became the dominant portrait painter to the court. Life Lely was born Pieter van der Faes to Dutch parents in Soest in Westphalia, where his father was an officer serving in the armed forces of the Elector of Brandenburg. Lely studied painting in Haarlem, where he may have been apprenticed to Pieter de Grebber. He became a master of the Guild of Saint Luke in Haarlem in 1637. He is reputed to have adopted the surname "Lely" (also occasionally spelled Lilly) from a heraldic lily on the gable of the house where his father was born in The Hague. John Noel (1659–1718)
John Noel (7 November 1659 – 26 December 1718), of North Luffenham, Rutland was a British politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1711 and 1718. Noel was the 7th son of Baptist Noel, 3rd Viscount Campden, and his fourth wife Lady Elizabeth Bertie, daughter of Montague Bertie, 2nd Earl of Lindsey and was born on 7 November 1659. He entered Middle Temple in 1676 but still had chambers at the Middle Temple in 1681. Late in the summer of 1687, he had a quarrel at a horse-race meeting with Bennet Sherard, 2nd Baron Sherard who resorted to physical violence. This created such a stir among the local gentry that Lord Sunderland, secretary of state instructed Lord Huntingdon lord lieutenant of Leicestershire to see that the difference was smoothed over. In time it was, as Sherard became the father-in-law of Noel when his daughter Elizabeth Lady Irvine (or Irwin), widow of Edward Ingram, 2nd Viscount of Irvine, married him on 27 May 1696. Montagu Bertie, 2nd Earl of Lindsey, Order of the Garter, KG, Privy Council of England, PC (1608 – 25 July 1666) was an English soldier, courtier, and politician who sat in the House of Commons of England, House of Commons between 1624 and 1626.
