Elizabeth Lissaman
Elizabeth Hazel Lissaman (11 October 1901 – 18 February 1991) was a New Zealand studio potter. Lissaman was born in Blenheim, New Zealand, Blenheim and grew up on her family's sheep station, Waireka, near Seddon, New Zealand, Seddon. In 1969, Lissaman published ''Pottery for Pleasure in Australia and New Zealand'', a book designed to support potters working with Australasian clays. Lissaman was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, for services to pottery, in the 1982 Birthday Honours (New Zealand), 1982 Queen's Birthday Honours. Her work is held in several public collections, including the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and the Sarjeant Gallery. Lissaman died in Cambridge, New Zealand, Cambridge in 1991. Seddon, New Zealand
Seddon is a small town in Marlborough, New Zealand. It is located south of Blenheim, close to the mouths of the Awatere and Blind Rivers and the Lake Grassmere salt works. Salt and lime are major local industries, and the Awatere Valley is an important part of the Marlborough wine region. The town was named for a former Prime Minister of New Zealand, Richard Seddon. Geography Earthquakes Seddon has been close to the epicentres of several significant earthquakes. On the morning of 16 October 1848, Marlborough was struck by a damaging earthquake later estimated to be between magnitude 7.4 and 7.7. The epicentre of this earthquake was 45 km southeast of Seddon. The Sarjeant Gallery Te Whare o Rehua Whanganui at Pukenamu, Queen's Park Whanganui is currently closed for redevelopment. The temporary premises at Sarjeant on the Quay, 38 Taupo Quay currently house the Sarjeant Collection, and all exhibitions and events. The Sarjeant Gallery is a regional art museum with a collection of international and New Zealand art. Founding and building The Sarjeant was built as the result of a bequest to the city by Henry Sarjeant in 1912.
