Elizabeth Busche
Elizabeth Busche (September 12, 1992 – May 3, 2012) was an American curler from Duluth, Minnesota. Curling career Busche started curling in 2001, but played third for Cory Christensen's junior team in 2011. They were Minnesota state runners up in 2011 and 2012, thus represented "Minnesota 2" at both the 2011 and 2012 United States Junior Curling Championships. The team won the 2012 Championship, qualifying them to represent the United States at the 2012 World Junior Curling Championships. The team finished last in the tournament, with a 0–9 record. In addition to her junior accolades, Busche was also a member of the 2011 Minnesota State Mixed championship team that finished 5th at the 2011 US Mixed Championship. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. Cory Christensen
Cory Thiesse ( Christensen; born December 1, 1994) is an American curler from Duluth, Minnesota. She is currently the defending U.S. champion skip, and represented her country at the 2022 World Women's Curling Championship. Christensen was one of the top junior women's curlers in the United States, playing in six national junior championships and winning four of them. She was the alternate on Nina Roth's 2018 United States Olympic team. In 2019 Thiesse and mixed doubles partner John Shuster won the United States Mixed Doubles Championship and earned the bronze medal at the World Mixed Doubles Championship. Career 2010–2013: Early juniors Thiesse's first appearance on the national stage was at the 2011 United States Junior National Championships, where she finished fifth. 2012 World Junior Curling Championships
The 2012 World Junior Curling Championships was held from March 3 to 11 at the Z-Hallen in Östersund, Sweden. Östersund previously hosted the World Junior Curling Championships in 1999 and in 2008. In the men's final, Canada's Brendan Bottcher defeated Sweden's Rasmus Wranå in eight ends with a score of 10–4. Scotland's Kyle Smith secured the men's bronze medal with a 7–3 win over Norway's Markus Høiberg. In the women's final, Scotland's Hannah Fleming defeated the Czech Republic's Zuzana Hájková in an extra end with a score of 6–5. United States Mixed Curling Championship
The United States Mixed Curling Championship is the annual national curling championship for mixed curling teams in the United States. A mixed curling team consists of two men and two women with the throwing order alternating by gender. The United States Curling Association (USCA) has held the Mixed Championship annually since 1975. Starting in 2015 the winner has gone on to represent the United States at the World Mixed Curling Championship. The 2019 Mixed Curling Championship was held March 23 to 30 at the Denver Curling Club in Golden, Colorado. Ten teams qualified for the 2019 Championship through regional play-downs. On July 17, 2020 the USCA announced that the 2020 edition of the Mixed Championship would be cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Ovarian Cancer
Ovarian cancer is a cancerous tumor of an ovary. It may originate from the ovary itself or more commonly from communicating nearby structures such as fallopian tubes or the inner lining of the abdomen. The ovary is made up of three different cell types including epithelial cells, germ cells, and stromal cells. When these cells become abnormal, they have the ability to divide and form tumors. These cells can also invade or spread to other parts of the body. When this process begins, there may be no or only vague symptoms. Symptoms become more noticeable as the cancer progresses. These symptoms may include bloating, vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain, abdominal swelling, constipation, and loss of appetite, among others. World Curling Federation
The World Curling Federation (WCF) is the world governing body for curling accreditation, with offices in Perth, Scotland. It was formed out of the International Curling Federation (ICF), when the push for Olympic Winter Sport status was made. The name was changed in 1990. The ICF was initially formed in 1966 as a committee of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club in Perth after the success of the Scotch Cup series of world championships held between Canada and Scotland.
