Elizabeth Ball (politician)
Elizabeth Ball is a Canadian politician, actress, and founder of several theatre companies. She served on Vancouver city council 2005 to 2018. Career Ball was elected to Vancouver City Council in 2005 and re-elected in 2011 and 2014. She ran with the Non-Partisan Association (NPA). Ball did not seek re-election in 2008. A graduate of The Playhouse Theatre, she taught Theatre in Education at the University of British Columbia for many years. She founded the Carousel Theatre Company and School and co-founded the Waterfront Theatre on Granville Island. Ball has developed productions on First Nations, AIDS, eating disorders and youth violence, as well as modern-dress Shakespeare productions. She led her company to receive the City of Vancouver's Cultural Harmony Award. Vancouver City Council
Vancouver City Council is the governing body of Vancouver, British Columbia. The council consists of a mayor and ten councillors elected to serve a four-year term. Monthly, a deputy mayor is appointed from among the councillors. The current mayor is Ken Sim, who leads the party ABC Vancouver. City council meetings are held in Vancouver City Hall. The most recent election was on October 15, 2022. Structure Unlike many other cities of its size, all Vancouver city councillors are elected at-large, rather than being elected to represent municipal wards. Vancouver Public Library (VPL) is the public library system for the city of Vancouver, British Columbia. The Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) is a nonprofit organization with a focus on empowerment, leadership, and rights of women, young women, and girls in more than 100 countries. The World office is currently based in Geneva, Switzerland, and the nonprofit is headquartered in Washington, DC. Mavor Moore
James Mavor Moore (March 8, 1919 – December 18, 2006) was a Canadian writer, producer, actor, public servant, critic, and educator. He notably appeared as Nero Wolfe in the CBC radio production in 1982. Life and work Moore was born in Toronto, Ontario, to Francis John Moore, an Anglican theologian, and Dora Mavor Moore, who helped establish Canadian professional theatre in the 1930s and 1940s. His mother was born in Glasgow, the daughter of economist James Mavor. Moore began acting at the age of six on the Hart House Stage, and continued throughout his high school career at the University of Toronto Schools. Non-Partisan Association
The Non-Partisan Association (NPA) is a municipal political party in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It was established by the city's business leaders in 1937 to challenge the democratic socialist Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) in that year's municipal election. The party has historically been described as centre-right and drawn its strongest support from Vancouver's business community. In the years following the 2018 municipal election, seven of the NPA's ten elected officials resigned from the party, claiming that it had become right-wing and undemocratic.
