Eliot-Pearson Awards
The Eliot-Pearson Award for Excellence in Children’s Media is an award given biennially to honor outstanding contributions in the field of children’s media. The award is given by thEliot-Pearson Department of Child Study and Human Developmentand thFilm and Media Studies Program at Tufts Universityat Tufts University. The award is given to organizations, individuals, or companies that have made important inroads in the world of children’s media. The Award is known as an “Abby,” named after Abigail Adams Eliot, a woman who, along with Elizabeth Pearson, is credited with helping to establish the early childhood movement of the first part of the 20th century, when they established the Ruggles Street Nursery School in Boston to serve children living in poverty in 1922. ''WordGirl'' (stylized as ''W✪RD GIRL'') is an American children's Flash animated superhero television series produced by the Soup2Nuts animation unit of Scholastic Entertainment for PBS Kids. The series began as a series of shorts entitled ''The Amazing Colossal Adventures of WordGirl'' that premiered on PBS Kids Go! on November 10, 2006, usually shown at the end of ''Maya & Miguel''; the segment was then spun off into a new thirty-minute episodic series that premiered on September 3, 2007 on most PBS member stations. The series of shorts consisted of thirty episodes, with 130 episodes in the full half-hour series. Craig Bartlett
Craig Michael Bartlett (born October 18, 1956) is an American animator, best known for writing, directing, creating and producing the Nickelodeon television series ''Hey Arnold!'' and the PBS Kids television series ''Dinosaur Train'' and ''Ready Jet Go!''. Career Bartlett's first job, after graduating from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, was at Will Vinton Studios in Portland, Oregon, where he learned the art of stop-motion animation, working on movies such as '' The Adventures of Mark Twain''. Bartlett moved to Los Angeles in 1987 to animate the "Penny" claymations for the second season of ''Pee-wee's Playhouse'' on CBS. He later made an animated ID for NBC with Klasky Csupo. He later worked at BRC Imagination Arts, directing projects such as ''Postcards'' and ''Mystery Lodge'' for Knott's Berry Farm. ''Maya & Miguel'' is an American animated children's television series produced by Scholastic Productions with animation by Starburst Animation Studios and by Yeson Entertainment. It aired on PBS Kids Go! from October 11, 2004 to October 10, 2007, and had a total of five seasons and 65 episodes over three years. The show also ran on Univision's Saturday morning Planeta U block.
