Elinor Otto
Elinor Otto (born October 28, 1919, in Los Angeles) is one of the original Rosie the Riveters, and built airplanes for 50 years. She was laid off at age 95, and is known as the "Last Serving Rosie the Riveter". World War II The name "Rosie" was given to women who took on the thousands of jobs left vacant after men had departed for the war. Otto began working at the Rohr, Inc., Rohr Aircraft Corporation in Chula Vista, California during World War II. She joined the war effort with her two sisters, one of whom worked with her at Rohr. When Otto first joined Rohr, she was recently single and was taking care of her young son. She earned 65 cents an hour in 1942. Post World War II Otto mainly worked for economic reasons, because she had to take care of her mother and son. She has also said that, "I'm a working person, I guess. I like to work. Bonnie Lowenthal
Bonnie Lowenthal (born February 19, 1940) is an American politician who represented California's 70th State Assembly district. Lowenthal also served on the Long Beach City Council prior to her service in the Assembly. Lowenthal unsuccessfully ran for Mayor of Long Beach in 2014, failing to get past the primary nominating election, earning 19% of the vote. Early life and education Lowenthal is the daughter of Jewish immigrants from the Soviet Union who immigrated to the United States to escape increasing anti-Semitism. Lowenthal received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin (class of 1961) and a Master's of Science in community and clinical psychology from Cal State Long Beach (class of 1974). Boeing C-17 Globemaster III
The McDonnell Douglas/Boeing C-17 Globemaster III is a large military transport aircraft that was developed for the United States Air Force (USAF) from the 1980s to the early 1990s by McDonnell Douglas. The C-17 carries forward the name of two previous piston-engined military cargo aircraft, the Douglas C-74 Globemaster and the Douglas C-124 Globemaster II. The C-17 is based upon the McDonnell Douglas YC-15, YC-15, a smaller prototype airlifter designed during the 1970s. It was designed to replace the Lockheed C-141 Starlifter, and also fulfill some of the duties of the Lockheed C-5 Galaxy. Compared to the YC-15, the redesigned airlifter differed in having swept wings, increased size, and more powerful engines.
