Elina Jayewardene
Elina Jayewardene (''née'' Bandara Rupasinghe; 15 December 1913 – 17 November 2007) was a Sri Lankan heiress and social worker, who was the wife of the second President of Sri Lanka, J. R. Jayewardene and was the First Lady of Sri Lanka from 1978 to 1988. Elina Jayewardene was known for her social work; she was the founder of the ‘Seva Vanitha’ Movement. Born Elina Bandara Rupasinghe, to Gilbert Leonard Rupasinghe, a Notary Public who was a successful businessmen and his wife Nancy Margaret Suriyabandara. Educated at home, she married J. R. Jayewardene, who was an Advocate, on 28 February 1935. Ravindra "Ravi" Vimal Jayewardene, their only child, was born soon after. First Lady Of Sri Lanka
First Lady of Sri Lanka (Sinhala: ශ්රී ලංකා ජනාධිපති ආර්යා Śrī Laṃkā Janādhipathi Aryā; Tamil: இலங்கை முதல் பெண்மணி Ilankai Mutal Peṇmaṇi) refers to the wife of the President of Sri Lanka. To date, there have been eight women who have served in the role. The current First Lady of Sri Lanka is Professor Maithree Wickremesinghe, wife of President Ranil Wickremasinghe, who has held the position since 20 July 2022. There have been no first gentlemen of Sri Lanka to date, since former President Chandrika Kumaratunga, the country's only female head of state, was a widow while in office. An advocate is a professional in the field of law. Different countries' legal systems use the term with somewhat differing meanings. Mirissa
Mirissa ( si, මිරිස්ස, translit=Mirissa; ta, மிரிஸ்ஸ, translit=Miris'sa) is a small town on the south coast of Sri Lanka, located in the Matara District of the Southern Province. It is approximately south of Colombo and is situated at an elevation of above sea level. Mirissa's beach and nightlife make it a popular tourist destination. It is also a fishing port and one of the island's main whale and dolphin watching locations. History Mirissa is the largest fishing port on the south coast and is known for its tuna, mullet, snapper, and butterfish. In 1980 the first tourist accommodation was built however it wasn't until the mid-1990s that tourism to the town started to dramatically increase. Jayewardene House, Mirissa
Pradeep Jayewardene House is the country house of the Jayewardene family. It is a pavilion-style villa which can be booked as holiday accommodation. The original colonial bungalow was built in the northern outskirts of Mirissa, on a steep cliff that forms the eastern coast of Weligama Bay. It was used by J. R. Jayewardene and his family on their holidays. It was burnt down in 1987 during the early days of the JVP Insurrection, following the signing of the Indo-Sri Lanka Accord. Vaijantha, was the childhood home of J. R. Jayewardene former President of Sri Lanka in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Today it houses the J.R. Jayewardene Centre It was built by Jayewardene's father Hon. Justice Eugene Wilfred Jayewardene KC, a Chief Justice of Ceylon. J. R. Jayewardene and his wife Elina moved into their own house Braemar in 1938. In 1988, the J.R Jayewardene Memorial Centre was established by the J.R Jayewardene Centre Act No. 77 of 1988 by Parliament at Vaijantha. Lord Stansgate
Viscount Stansgate, of Stansgate in the County of Essex, is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created in 1942 for the Labour politician, former Secretary of State for India and future Secretary of State for Air, William Wedgwood Benn. He was the second son of Sir John Benn, 1st Baronet, of The Old Knoll. Stansgate's eldest son and heir apparent, Michael Benn, was later killed in the Second World War.
