Elijah Benamozegh
Elijah Benamozegh, sometimes Elia or Eliyahu, (born 1823; died 6 February 1900) was an Italian Sephardic Orthodox rabbi and renowned Kabbalist, highly respected in his day as one of Italy's most eminent Jewish scholars. He served for half a century as rabbi of the important Jewish community of Livorno, where the "Piazza Benamozegh" now commemorates his name and distinction. His major work is ''Israel and Humanity'' (1863), which was translated into English by Dr. Mordechai Luria in 1995. Life He was born in Livorno. The name Benamozegh means "son of Amazigh". Elijah Behnke (born February 15, 1983) is an American small business owner and Republican politician. He is a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, having won an April 2021 special election in the 89th Assembly district. Elijah ben Moses Bashyazi of Adrianople or Elijah Bašyazi (in he, אליהו בן משה בן מנחם) (c. 1420 in Adrianople – 1490 in Adrianople) was a Karaite Jewish hakham of the fifteenth century. Elijah Porter Barrows (5 January 1807 – 14 September 1888) was an American clergyman and writer. He was born in Mansfield, Connecticut. Background Barrows graduated from Yale in 1826, and, after teaching school for five years at Hartford, was ordained in 1832. In 1835, he declined a position at Oberlin College, choosing instead to become pastor of the first free Presbyterian Church in New York City. Here Barrows remained until 1837, when he accepted the professorship of sacred literature in Western Reserve College (1837–52). Elijah Barayi
Elijah Barayi (15 June 1930 – 24 January 1994) was a South African trade union leader. Born in Cradock, Barayi hoped to study at the Fort Hare University, but his family were unable to afford tuition, so he instead became a clerk at the Department of Native Affairs. He joined the African National Congress (ANC) in 1952, and worked closely with James Calata. He participated in the Defiance Campaign, presenting himself at a local police station without papers after curfew, for which he was sentenced to one month in prison. In 1960, the ANC was banned, and Barayi was again arrested, and held for five months. Following release, he moved to Brakpan to escape police harassment, and found work in personnel at a gold mine. Elijah Babbitt (July 29, 1795 – January 9, 1887) was a Republican United States Representative from Pennsylvania. Babbitt was born in Providence, Rhode Island. He moved with his parents to New York State in 1805. He received an academic education and moved to Milton, Pennsylvania, in 1816.
