Eli Cross (politician)
Eli Cross , is a Canadian politician in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. He was elected to the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly in the 2011 provincial election. A member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador, he represented the electoral district of Bonavista North. In the 2015 election, Cross was defeated by Liberal Derrick Bragg in the new Fogo Island-Cape Freels riding. Prior to his election to the legislature, Cross served as mayor of Wesleyville, and subsequently as mayor of the amalgamated town of New-Wes-Valley. 2015 Newfoundland And Labrador General Election
The 2015 Newfoundland and Labrador general election, held on November 30, 2015, elected members of the 48th General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Progressive Conservative Party which had governed since 2003 election, was defeated by the Liberal Party, which won a majority in the new assembly. The election had been scheduled for October 13, 2015, under Newfoundland and Labrador's House of Assembly Act, mandating a fixed election day on the second Tuesday in October in the fourth calendar year after the previous election. However, the House of Assembly amended the act in June 2015, to delay the election until November 30, 2015, so that the election campaign would not overlap with the federal election scheduled on October 19, 2015. Thomas Lush (born March 1, 1939) is a Canadian educator and former politician in Newfoundland and Labrador. He represented the riding of Terra Nova in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly from 1975 to 1983 and from 1996 to 2003, and Bonavista North from 1985 to 1996. He was a member of the Liberal Party. Wesleyville is a small coastal community in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It is located on the Straight Shore of Bonavista Bay, on the northeast coast of Newfoundland, near the communities of Greenspond and Newtown. It was settled in the early 19th century, when residents relocated from nearby islands. History The first settlers originally lived on Swain's Island, which is often called the "parent of Wesleyville." They moved to the mainland between 1870 and 1930 to what is now called Wesleyville. Wesleyville was named in 1884 after John Wesley, one of the founders of the Methodist movement. By 1891 the population was close to 2,000. The town relied mostly on the Labrador fishery.
