Elettra (album)
''Elettra'' (Italian for Electra) is the seventh studio album by Italian singer-songwriter Carmen Consoli, released in 2009. Production The album was recorded in Catania in June 2009. It was mixed in Rome and mastered in Portland by Bob Ludwig. Release and artwork The album was released on 30 October 2009. The cover art is a picture taken by fashion photographer Rankin, who also shot all the pictures in the album's booklet. Composition The album has a more European and less ethnic sound than previous Consoli's works. The bossa nova "Non molto lontano da qui", "Mandaci una cartolina" (a portrait of Consoli's father, who had died in May 2009 following an aneurysm), and "'A finestra" served as album's singles. Several songs have strong themes, such as the title song "Elettra", which is a portrait of a prostitute who falls in love for a client, and "Mio zio", which tells of incestuous rape. Carmen Consoli (; born 4 September 1974 in Catania) is an Italian singer-songwriter. She has released 11 studio albums, one greatest hits, one soundtrack album, two live albums, four video album and 33 singles, selling 2 million copies in Italy, certified by M&D and FIMI with a multiplatinum disc, 11 platinum and two gold certifications. She earned three nominations at the Sanremo Music Festival, one Targa Tenco, one Lunezia Award, seven Italian, Wind & Music Awards, one Telegatto, one David di Donatello, and two Nastri d'argento, and several other awards. John Rankin Waddell (born 1966), known as Rankin, is a British photographer and director who has photographed Kate Moss, Madonna (entertainer), Madonna, David Bowie and Elizabeth II, The Queen. The Federazione Industria Musicale Italiana (FIMI) is an umbrella organization that keeps track of virtually all aspects of the music recording industry in Italy. It was established in 1992, when major corporate labels left the previously existing Associazione dei Fonografici Italiani (AFI). During the following years, most of the remaining Italian record labels left AFI to join the new organisation. As of 2011, FIMI represents 2,500 companies operating in the music business. Bossa Nova
Bossa nova () is a style of samba developed in the late 1950s and early 1960s in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is mainly characterized by a "different beat" that altered the harmonies with the introduction of unconventional chords and an innovative syncopation of traditional samba from a single rhythmic division. The "bossa nova beat" is characteristic of a samba style and not of an autonomous genre. According to the Brazilian journalist Ruy Castro, the bossa beat – which was created by the drummer Milton Banana – was "an extreme simplification of the beat of the samba school", as if all instruments had been removed and only the tamborim had been preserved. Robert C. Ludwig (born c. 1945) is an American mastering engineer. He has mastered recordings on all the major recording formats for all the major record labels, and on projects by more than 1,300 artists including Led Zeppelin, Lou Reed, Queen, Jimi Hendrix, Bryan Ferry, Paul McCartney, Nirvana, Bruce Springsteen and Daft Punk resulting in over 3,000 credits.
