Elena Xanthoudakis
Elena Xanthoudakis (born 1978) is an Australian operatic soprano. Life and career Xanthoudakis was born in Mount Beauty to Greek father and Australian mother, and raised in Bentleigh. After graduating from McKinnon Secondary College she studied astrophysics in university. In her second year, she gradually turned to music by taking on full-time honours music performance degree at the Victorian College of the Arts. After completing Bachelor of Music with Honours in 2001, she pursued simultaneously Master of Music at the University of Melbourne and Graduate Diploma of Opera at the VCA, receiving both degrees in 2004. She then studied on scholarship at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she received Master of Music degree with distinction in 2005. She won numerous prizes in native and international competitions. In 2003, she won the Maria Callas International Grand Prix in Athens, and was a finalist in the Australian Singing Competition. A soprano () is a type of classical female singing voice and has the highest vocal range of all voice types. Richard Bonynge
Richard Alan Bonynge ( ) (born 29 September 1930) is an Australian conductor and pianist. He is the widower of Australian dramatic coloratura soprano Dame Joan Sutherland. Bonynge conducted virtually all of Sutherland's operatic performances from 1962 until her retirement in 1990. Biography Bonynge was born in Epping, a suburb of Sydney, and educated at Sydney Boys' High School before studying piano at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and gaining a scholarship to the Royal College of Music in London, where his piano teacher was Herbert Fryer. He gave up his music scholarship, continuing his private piano studies, and became a coach for singers. One of these was Joan Sutherland, whom he had accompanied in Australia. Signum Records, also known as Signum Classics, is a classical musical record label in the UK founded in 1997. The label began with a project to make the first recording of the complete works of Thomas Tallis. The artists for the Tallis recording were the Chapelle du Roi, an ensemble of ten singers founded in 1994 by Alistair Dixon, also co-founder of the record label. Royal Northern Sinfonia is a British chamber orchestra, founded in Newcastle upon Tyne and currently based in Gateshead. For the first 46 years of its history, the orchestra gave most of its concerts at the Newcastle City Hall. Since 2004, the orchestra has been resident at Sage Gateshead. In June 2013 Queen Elizabeth II bestowed the title 'Royal' on the orchestra, formally naming it the Royal Northern Sinfonia. Borletti-Buitoni Trust
The Borletti-Buitoni Trust () (BBT) was established as a charitable trust in 2002 to help young musicians throughout the world. The Trust assists classical instrumentalists, ensembles and singers in their early 20s and 30s to further develop their international careers with awards that fund tailor-made projects. The first awards were made in 2003. The Trust confidentially invites respected figures in the classical music profession to nominate young artists for consideration. Mount Beauty is a small town in north-eastern Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia.
