Elena Sviridova
Elena Sviridova (née Ivanova; born 2 April 1988) is a Paralympian athlete from Russia competing mainly in category T36 sprint events. Sviridova competed at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, where she won three gold medals, in the 100m and 200m sprint, and the women's T35–38 100m sprint relay. As well as her Paralympic success Sviridova has been dominant in her field during the World Championships winning gold in both the 100m and 200m sprints at the 2011 and 2015 Games. Personal history Sviridova was born Elena Ivanova in Yoshkar-Ola in the former Soviet Union in 1988. Sviridova studied economics at Saint Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance. She is married to fellow Russian Paralympic athlete Vladimir Sviridov, and they have a son, who was born in 2013. Yoshkar-Ola ( Mari and russian: Йошкар-Ола) is the capital city of the Mari El Republic, Russia. Yoshkar-Ola means “red city” in Mari and was formerly known as Tsaryovokokshaysk () before 1919, as Krasnokokshaysk () between 1919 and 1927 both after the Malaya Kokshaga River and Charla (), by the Mari people. Yoshkar-Ola was established as a military fortress in 1584, following the Russian conquest of the Mari-inhabited regions of the Volga and its tributaries. Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of movement disorders that appear in early childhood. Signs and symptoms vary among people and over time, but include poor coordination, stiff muscles, weak muscles, and tremors. There may be problems with sensation, vision, hearing, and speaking. Often, babies with cerebral palsy do not roll over, sit, crawl or walk as early as other children of their age. Other symptoms include seizures and problems with thinking or reasoning, which each occur in about one-third of people with CP. Vladimir Sergeyevich Sviridov (russian: Владимир Сергеевич Свиридов; born 10 May 1990) is a Russian para-athlete competing mainly in category F36 long jump and shot put. In 2013 he took the gold in the shot put at the IPC Athletics World Championships equaling his own world record which he set two months earlier in Emmeloord. Personal history Sviridov was born in Novocherkassk, Soviet Union in 1990. He was born with cerebral palsy. He is married to fellow Russian para-athlete Elena Ivanova. Career history Sviridov's first major international competition was the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships held in Christchurch, New Zealand.
