Elena Gatti Caporaso (2 March 1918 – 13 September 1999) was an Italian socialist politician and feminist. Italian Socialist Party
The Italian Socialist Party (, PSI) was a socialist and later social-democratic political party in Italy, whose history stretched for longer than a century, making it one of the longest-living parties of the country. Founded in Genoa in 1892, the PSI dominated the Italian left until after World War II, when it was eclipsed in status by the Italian Communist Party. The Socialists came to special prominence in the 1980s, when their leader Bettino Craxi, who had severed the residual ties with the Soviet Union and re-branded the party as " liberal-socialist", served as Prime Minister (1983–1987). The PSI was disbanded in 1994 as a result of the ''Tangentopoli'' scandals. The party has had a series of legal successors: the Italian Socialists (1994–1998), the Italian Democratic Socialists (1998–2007) and the Italian Socialist Party (since 2007, originally "Socialist Party"). Giuliana Nenni
Giuliana Nenni (1911–2002) was an Italian journalist and politician. She served in the Italian Parliament and Senate for the Italian Socialist Party. She was known as the sister of all Romagna’s women. Early life and education Giuliana Nenni was born in Forlì on 26 December 1911. She was the eldest daughter of Pietro Nenni, leader of the Italian Socialist Party, and Carmen Emiliani. Her father was in prison when Giuliana was born. She had a sister, Luciana, who was ten years younger of her. When her family was in exile in Paris from 1926 Nenni attended the courses on French civilization at the Sorbonne University. Career and activities Nenni edited a socialist newspaper entitled ''Populaire'' in Paris. She joined the Italian Socialist Party in 1934. Feminism in Italy originated during the Italian renaissance period, beginning in the late 13th century. Italian writers such as Christine de Pizan, Moderata Fonte, Lucrezia Marinella, and others developed the theoretical ideas behind gender equality. In contrast to feminist movements in France and United Kingdom, early women's rights advocates in Italy emphasized women's education and improvement in social conditions. Italian feminism suffered a setback under the fascist government of Benito Mussolini in the first half of the twentieth century, with fascist ideology dictating procreation as a woman's duty. The Italian Socialists ( it, Socialisti Italiani, SI) were a minor social-democratic political party in Italy active from 1994 to 1998. The party was the legal successor of the Italian Socialist Party (PSI), following its dissolution by the 47th Party Congress due to the severe financial crisis following the ''Tangentopoli'' scandal. A minoritarian group of the congress, who proposed an autonomist and centrist solution against the PSI dissolution, instead founded the Reformist Socialist Party.
