Electronic body music (acronymized to EBM) is a genre of electronic music that combines elements of industrial music and synth-punk with elements of disco and dance music. It developed in the early 1980s in Western Europe as an outgrowth of both punk and industrial music cultures. Front 242
Front 242 is a Belgian electronic music group that came into prominence during the 1980s. Pioneering the style they called electronic body music, they are a profound influence on the electronic and industrial music genres. History Formation Front 242 were formed in 1981 in Aarschot, near Leuven, Belgium, by Daniel Bressanutti and Dirk Bergen, who wanted to create music and graphic design using emerging electronic tools. Prior to forming Front 242, Bressanutti worked on a music project called Prothese that had already produced several one-off tracks. The ''front'' part of the name comes from the idea of an organized popular uprising and the fact that the word can be translated in many languages while retaining the same meaning. Jean-Luc De Meyer (born 1957 in Brussels) is a vocalist and lyricist who is best known as the lead vocalist of the Belgian EBM group Front 242. He started singing in the experimental group "Under Viewer" with Patrick Codenys. Both joined Front 242 early in their history and de Meyer's distinctive growl became part of the group's trademark sound as their reputation grew during the late 1980s. By the early 1990s the Front 242 formula seemed to be tiring and there were growing musical differences within the group. In 1994 the band went on hiatus while de Meyer and other members started to focus on side projects. The most prominent of these was Cyber-Tec Project - later known as C-Tec. C-Tec produced two albums before going dormant towards the end of the 1990s, whilst his other project Cobalt 60 was more coolly received. "Dominique" is a 1963 French language popular song, written and performed by the Belgian female singer Jeannine Deckers, better known as Sœur Sourire ("Sister Smile" in French) or The Singing Nun. The song is about Saint Dominic, a Spanish-born priest and founder of the Dominican Order, of which she was a member (as Sister Luc-Gabrielle). Cassell Webb is a British–American musician and producer, whose musical career has incorporated psychedelia, country music, folk rock, and progressive rock. Biography Born in Llano, Texas, United States, in the late 1940s, Webb began playing guitar at 14 and later became involved with the psychedelic scene in San Antonio. She became a member of the Children, a psychedelic group that was part of Lelan Rogers' stable of artists, appearing on their 1968 ''Rebirth'' album and several singles. She later joined Saddlesore, a Texas combo whose core members, Mayo Thompson and Rick Barthelme, were former members of Red Krayola, another Rogers-managed act.
