Electrofringe is a presenting platform for experimental electronic and technology-based art in Australia. Electrofringe is a non-profit arts organisation and annual festival. Overview Electrofringe hosts exhibitions and events throughout the year, focussing on experimental electronic and tech-based art. By putting artists and their works in the same place at the same time, exchange and development of ideas is fostered. History Electrofringe was established in 1998 by Nick Ritarr and Sean Healy as part of the Newcastle Fringe Festival. From 2001 to 2011, the Electrofringe Festival was presented as a five-day annual festival in Newcastle, NSW as part of a group of festivals which come together under the banner of This is Not Art (TiNA). In 2012, Electrofringe took a break from TiNA to celebrate its 15th year with a change in focus and a new direction. ''The Night Air'' was a weekly Radio National, ABC Radio National program that remixed a variety of media around different themes. The show was broadcast nationally across Australia from 2002 to 2013 and is partly available as a podcast. This Is Not Art
This Is Not Art (TiNA) is a national festival of new media and arts organized in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia each year over the October long weekend since 1998. TiNA is dedicated to the work and ideas of artistic communities not generally included in other major Australian arts festivals or institutions. The program includes the festivals Electrofringe, the National Young Writers' Festival, Critical Animals, and Crack Theatre Festival. Naming The name This Is Not Art was adopted in 2000 to reflect the very different but interconnected events of the festival. It takes its name from a piece of graffiti on what was Newcastle's tallest building, Latec House (now completely refurbished and converted to apartments), which had been derelict for several years.
