The electoral division of Derwent is one of the 15 electoral divisions in the Tasmanian Legislative Council. It is situated in the central south of the state. The last boundary redistribution occurred in 2017. The total area of the division is . As of 31 January 2019, there were 25,637 enrolled voters in the division. Craig Farrell (politician)
Craig Maxwell Farrell (born 28 January 1964) is an Australian politician, and a member of the Tasmanian Legislative Council representing the seat of Derwent for the Labor Party. In the 1980s, Farrell hosted ''The Cartoon Company'', a Saturday morning cartoon programming block on TasTV, with a costumed character called "Boss Poss". From the 1990s, he was a television sales executive and real estate representative. Farrell was elected to the Legislative Council in a by-election on 7 May 2011 following the resignation of Michael Aird in 2010. He also served as a councillor and Deputy Mayor of Derwent Valley Council until October 2011, and was an electoral officer in the New Norfolk office of federal MP Dick Adams. Maydena, Tasmania
Maydena is a locality in Tasmania, Australia, alongside the River Tyenna. Maydena is on the Gordon River Road, south west of New Norfolk, through the Bushy Park Hop Fields, turn left at Westerway, past Mount Field National Park and Russell Falls, through Tyenna and Fitzgerald townships and then up to Maydena itself. Gordon River Road continues to Lake Pedder, Lake Gordon and Strathgordon, in the Southwest National Park of Tasmania. Maydena was formerly called Junee and was a small settlement that provided access to Adamsfield Osmiridium mining in the early 1900s. In 1947-1950 Australian Newsprint Mills built 100 houses for the workers of the forestry operations of Australian Newsprint Mill to provide timber for the production of newsprint at their newsprint Mill in Boyer, Tasmania. Michael Aird
Michael Anthony Aird (born 12 April 1949 in Melbourne) is a former Tasmanian politician. He was an ALP member of the Tasmanian Legislative Council in the Division of Derwent since 1995. From 2006 to 2010, he was the treasurer of Tasmania, one of few legislative councillors in history to have held a ministerial portfolio and the first to serve as Treasurer as previous Treasurers has been from the lower house, the House of Assembly. He took over the role of Treasurer from Paul Lennon after the 2006 state election. He was Government leader in the Legislative Council from 1998 to 2006. Charles Leo Batt (31 December 1928 – 27 October 2007), Australian politician, was a Labor member of the Tasmanian House of Assembly from 1974 to 1976, then a member of the Legislative Council from 1979 to 1995. Born and raised in Tasmania, Batt was first elected to the House of Assembly on 26 July 1974 representing the electorate of Wilmot (now Lyons), where he served on the Public Accounts Committee, but was defeated at the next election on 11 December 1976. Sir Rupert Oakley Shoobridge (25 January 1883 – 5 November 1962) was an Australian politician. He was born in Hobart. He had an extensive political pedigree: his father, Louis Shoobridge, was also a state politician while his mother was the daughter of Sir Philip Fysh, a former Premier of Tasmania. In 1937 he was elected to the Tasmanian Legislative Council as the independent member for Derwent, succeeding his father. Walter Angus Bethune Gellibrand (17 October 1832 – 5 November 1909) was a politician in colonial Tasmania, President of the Tasmanian Legislative Council from 1884 to 1889. William Henry Langdon (September 25, 1873 – August 10, 1939) was an American banker, lawyer and Associate Justice of the California Supreme Court from January 4, 1927, to August 10, 1939. Education and early career Langdon was born near Dublin, Alameda County, California, to Irish immigrants William and Annie Langdon. Following the death of Langdon's father in 1875, his mother ran a cattle and wheat ranch. Langdon was educated in the public schools and Hayward High School. He graduated from the California State Normal School to become a teacher, while also studying law in the offices of future Supreme Court Justice John E. Richards.
