Geography Wynnum is on the shores of Moreton Bay in Brisbane, Australia, about by road east of the Brisbane GPO. Toponymy Wynnum likely derives from a Durubalic word meaning pandanus palm or mud crab. History Aboriginal history of Quandamooka (Moreton Bay) stretches back over 25,000 years and Aboriginal connection to the Wynnum area has remained strong throughout European colonisation. William Logan Dart (25 August 1877 – 17 January 1969) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Dart was born at Brisbane, Queensland, the son of the John Dart and his wife Maria Jane (née Logan). He was educated at Brisbane Central State School and in 1893 moved to Forest Hill where, along with his brother, he took up a selection. He later acquired an additional 180 acres where he became one of the leading growers of lucerne in the state. It was also later used as his homestead after his marriage. Eric Shaw (politician)
Eric Frank Shaw (born 12 January 1936) is a former Australian politician. He was born in Wynnum to Thomas Bourke Shaw and Edna Eileen (née Reese). He attended Manly State School, Wynnum State High School and Central Technical School, becoming a clerk with Eagers Motors in Newstead in 1950 and then an apprentice plumber for Alan Moore & Co. Later he was a water supply, health and sewerage inspector for Brisbane City Council, to which he was elected in 1967. A Labor member, he was elected to the Queensland Legislative Assembly in 1977 as the member for Wynnum. From 1982 he was Opposition Spokesman on Welfare, Aboriginal and Islander Affairs, moving to Local Government in January 1983 (to which Main Roads and Racing were added in November). William McMillan Lamond (13 July 1920 – 5 July 1990) was an Australian politician. He was a National Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1974 until 1977, representing the electorate of Wynnum. Lamond was born in Cloncurry, Queensland, and served in the Royal Australian Air Force for three years. Ted Harris (Queensland Politician)
Edward David Harris (30 August 1911 – 2 October 1993) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Harris was born at Brisbane, Queensland, the son of the Alfred Edward Harris and his wife Elizabeth Roxborough (née Smith). He was educated at Goodna, Wynnum, and Sherwood state schools. He joined the RAAF in 1940 and served in the 24th and 75th Squadrons, being discharged in 1945 with the rank of sergeant. On his return to Australia he worked as a clothing manufacturer at Manly, specializing in men's and boys wear. On 20 May 1942, Harris married Marion Miller Morrison and together had a beautiful daughter, also named Marion, and a son. Bill Gunn (Queensland Politician, Born 1895)
William Morrison Gunn (19 April 1895 – 9 April 1970) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Gunn was born at Mackay, Queensland, the son of the William Gunn and his wife Mary (née McLeod). He was educated at Brisbane, Gympie, and Laidley before joining the 1st AIF at the start of World War I. He was stationed with the 2nd Light Horse Brigade and saw action in Gallipoli and Palestine and in April 1917 promoted to sergeant. In the same month as his promotion, Gunn was shot in the head and left elbow by opposing forces near Gaza. He was found to have a fractured skull and was put on the dangerously ill list. The United Australia Party was the short-lived Queensland branch of the national United Australia Party in the 1930s and 1940s. Based around Brisbane, it spent the entire of its history in opposition, merging in 1941 into the Country-National Organisation. John Donnelly (Australian Politician)
John Burton Donnelly (10 May 1885 - 30 June 1956) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Donnelly was born at Ipswich, Queensland, the son of the John Donnelly and his wife Louise Bridget (née Lachetelle). He joined the First Australian Imperial Force at the start of World War I and served with the 2nd Light Horse Brigade in Gallipoli where he was wounded. He then joined the Camel Corps and was stationed in Palestine before finally joining the AAMC and working in the dental services. He returned to Australia in December 1918 with the rank of Captain having lost a brother to fighting in April of the previous year. After the war he continued his work as a dentist. In 1918 he married Eileen Cecelia Crance. He then married Bridget Theresa McIntosh in 1946.
