Electoral Division Of Paterson
The electoral division of Paterson was one of the 15 electorates or 'seats' in the Tasmanian Legislative Council (upper house) from 1999 to 2008 when a redistribution saw it reverted to its original name of Launceston. The electorate itself includes most of the Launceston city area. However, not all Launceston suburbs are a part of Paterson some like Mowbray, Rocherlea, Ravenswood are part of the electoral division of Windermere. Others including West Launceston, Riverside, Trevallyn and Summerhill are part of the electoral division of Rosevears. The rest of the city falls in Paterson. The rural properties just outside Launceston at Western Junction and Breadalbane are also included in the division. The divisions uses much of its western border as the South Esk River, its Southern border is Illawara Road and the entrance to Perth. Tasmanian Legislative Council
The Tasmanian Legislative Council is the upper house of the Parliament of Tasmania in Australia. It is one of the two chambers of the Parliament, the other being the House of Assembly. Both houses sit in Parliament House in the state capital, Hobart. Members of the Legislative Council are often referred to as MLCs. The Legislative Council has 15 members elected using preferential voting in 15 single-member electorates. Each electorate has approximately the same number of electors. A review of Legislative Council division boundaries is required every 9 years; the most recent was completed in 2017. Election of members in the Legislative Council are staggered. Elections alternate between three divisions in one year and in two divisions the next year. Elections take place on the first Saturday in May. The term of each MLC is six years. The electoral division of Windermere is one of the 15 electorates or 'seats' in the Tasmanian Legislative Council. The division is located on the East side of the Tamar River. It is named after the town of Windermere which is located along the banks of the river between Launceston and George Town. Within the electorate are the towns of George Town, Low Head, Windermere, Dilston, Relbia, Hillwood and Bell Bay. The Launceston suburbs of Rocherlea, Newnham, Mowbray, Mayfield, Ravenswood, St Leonards, Elphin and Waverley. The electoral division of Rosevears is one of the 15 electorates or 'seats' in the Tasmanian upper house. The division is located on the west side of the Tamar River. It is named after the town of Rosevears which is located on the river banks near Exeter. The electoral boundaries include the towns of Exeter, Rowella, Sidmouth, Legana, Bridgenorth, Gravelly Beach, Greens Beach, Beaconsfield, Glengarry, Beauty point and Clarence point. South Esk River
The South Esk River, the longest river in Tasmania, is a major perennial river located in the northern region of Tasmania, Australia. Location and features The South Esk springs from the eastern foothills of the Ben Lomond plateau near Mathinna and the river's course describes an arc around the entire southern promontory of the mountain – running through Fingal, Avoca and Evandale before winding its way northwest through Perth, Longford and Hadspen. Perth is a town in the Australian state of Tasmania. It lies south of Launceston, on the Midland Highway. The town had a population of 2,965 at the 2016 census, and is part of the Northern Midlands Council. Cornwall (Tasmania Electorate)
The electoral division of Cornwall was an electoral division in the Tasmanian Legislative Council of Australia. It was abolished in 1999 after the Legislative Council was reduced from 19 members to 15. The former division was located on the western side of the Tamar River and central Launceston. Cornwall included Legana and the Launceston suburbs of Riverside and Trevallyn, South Launceston, East Launceston, Punchbowl and Sandhill. Most of the electorate including Legana, Trevallyn, Riverside and Grinderwald were incorporated into the Division of Rosevears. However the central Launceston suburbs became part of Paterson.
