Electoral District Of West Camden
Western Division of Camden was an electoral district for the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales from 1856 to 1857. Its name was changed to West Camden between 1858 and 1859, when it was replaced by the electoral district of Camden. It elected two members simultaneously, with voters casting two votes and the first two candidates being elected. The electorate was based on western Camden County, which adjoins the Cumberland County (Sydney Basin) to the south, including the Southern Highlands and, to the east, the Illawarra. Candidates were elected in 1856, and 1858. William Wild (politician)
William Vandermuelen Wild (4 October 1834 – 25 May 1861) was an Australian politician. He was born in Camden to Emmeline Gaudry (Godfrey) and John Benton Wild then pastoralist, later elected a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1845 until 1848. On 26 January 1855 he married Eliza Jane Green, with whom he had three sons. A barrister from 1858, he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for West Camden in 1858. John Norton Oxley
John Norton Oxley (23 March 1824 – 24 March 1891) was an Australian farmer and politician. He was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for one term between 1856 and 1857. Early life Oxley was the eldest son of the noted explorer and colonial surveyor-general, John Oxley. He was educated at The King's School, Parramatta and undertook a grand tour of Europe between 1842 and 1845. On his return to Australia he farmed his father's property "Kirkham Estate" initially growing lucerne but later converting to cereal crops. Together with his brother and fellow parliamentarian, Henry Oxley, he received a government grant of 5,000 acres in the Camden area. James Macarthur (Australian Politician)
James Macarthur (15 December 1798 – 21 April 1867) was an Australian pastoralist and politician. He was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council on three occasions between 1839 and 1843, 1848 and 1856 and finally from 1866 until his death. He was also a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly between 1856 and 1859. Early life Macarthur was the fourth son of John Macarthur and his wife Elizabeth. He was initially privately educated in Parramatta but accompanied his father to England in 1809 in the aftermath of the Rum Rebellion. He stayed in Europe throughout his father's exile and completed his education in Hackney before undertaking a grand tour. On arriving back in the colony in 1817, he was given responsibility for managing his father's Camden estates. The New South Wales Legislative Assembly is the lower of the two houses of the Parliament of New South Wales, an Australian state. The upper house is the New South Wales Legislative Council.
