Prior to 1927 some districts returned multiple members, including 1920-1927 when all districts returned 3,4 or 5 members. New South Wales Legislative Assembly
The New South Wales Legislative Assembly is the lower of the two houses of the Parliament of New South Wales, an Australian state. The upper house is the New South Wales Legislative Council. Both the Assembly and Council sit at Parliament House in the state capital, Sydney. The Assembly is presided over by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. The Assembly has 93 members, elected by single-member constituency, which are commonly known as seats. Voting is by the optional preferential system. Members of the Legislative Assembly have the post-nominals MP after their names. From the creation of the assembly up to about 1990, the post-nominals "MLA" (Member of the Legislative Assembly) were used. Redfern was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales, created in 1880, and named after and including the Sydney suburb of Redfern. It extended to Botany Bay and was bordered by Rainbow Street ( Redfern), Anzac Parade, the southern edge of Moore Park, South Dowling Street, Cleveland Street, City Road, King Street (Newtown), Alexandra Canal and Cooks River. It elected two members from 1880 to 1882, three members from 1882 to 1887 and four members from 1887 until the abolition of multi-member electorates in 1894, when it was split into Redfern, Botany, Darlington, Waterloo and part of Newtown-Erskine. George Anderson (Australian Politician)
George Anderson (1 November 1844 – 13 April 1919) was an English-born Australian politician. He was born in Lancaster to merchant navy captain Eugene Anderson and Susan Morton. He received a primary education before being apprenticed to a carpenter in 1858. He migrated to Auckland, New Zealand, in 1859, where he served in the invasion of the Waikato from 1863 to 1864. In 1861 he married Mary Anne Walsh. After moving to New South Wales in 1866, he joined the police force and in 1888 established scouring works at Rose Valley. From 1881 to 1894 he served on the Council of the Municipality of Waterloo and was twice Mayor of Waterloo. He was also a commissioner to the Melbourne Centennial Exhibition in 1888. In 1894 he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as the Independent Free Trade member for Waterloo.
