Electoral District Of Southern Downs
Southern Downs is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. It was created in 2001 as a replacement for Warwick. The district takes in the southern parts of the Darling Downs region along the New South Wales border. It includes the major towns of Warwick, Stanthorpe and Goondiwindi and extends westward almost to St George. It includes a number of smaller communities such as: * Allora * Cecil Plains * Inglewood * Killarney * Leyburn * Millmerran * Texas * Wallangarra * Yelarbon Darling Downs has traditionally been a conservative area, and Southern Downs is no exception. James Lister (politician)
James Paul Lister (born 6 April 1976) is an Australian politician. He has been the Liberal National Party member for Southern Downs in the Queensland Legislative Assembly since 2017. St George is a rural town and locality in the Shire of Balonne, Queensland, Australia. It is the administrative centre for the Shire of Balonne. In the , St George had a population of 3,048 people. Geography The town is due west of Brisbane and the Gold Coast and sits just inside the region of South West Queensland, Australia. Campbell Kevin Thomas Newman (born 12 August 1963) is a former Australian politician who served as the 38th Premier of Queensland from 26 March 2012 to 14 February 2015. He served as the member for Ashgrove in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland between 24 March 2012 and 31 January 2015. Lawrence Springborg
Lawrence James Springborg (born 17 February 1968) is an Australian politician. He led the National Party in the Queensland Parliament from 2003 to 2006 and again in 2008, before becoming the first leader of the merged Liberal National Party from 2008 to 2009. He led the LNP again from 2015 to 2016 before announcing his retirement. He currently serves as Mayor of Goondiwindi Regional Council, having been elected in March 2020. As Leader of the Queensland branch of the National Party, he led the National-Liberal coalition to defeats at both the 2004 and 2006 Queensland elections. Wallangarra is a rural town and locality in the Southern Downs Region, Queensland, Australia on the border with New South Wales. In the , the locality of Wallangarra had a population of 468 people. It is the third-most southerly town in Queensland, south west of Brisbane. Wallangarra is on the Queensland side of the border and Jennings is on the New South Wales side.
