Electoral District Of Robina
Robina was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 2001 to 2009. The district was located in the southern part of the Gold Coast, and named for the suburb of Robina. It also included parts of the Gold Coast suburbs of Broadbeach Waters, Merrimac, Clear Island Waters, Mermaid Waters and Varsity Lakes. The district's first member was Bob Quinn, leader of the Liberal Party from 2001 to 2006. He was succeeded by fellow Liberal Ray Stevens at the 2006 state election. At the 2009 Queensland state election, the name Robina was discarded when most of its namesake suburb was redistributed to Mudgeeraba. The remainder of the old Robina was renamed Mermaid Beach. History In 1980, Singaporean real estate developer, Robin Loh, and local property developer, Arthur Earle, purchased of land in the southern Gold Coast, Queensland, Gold Coast, west of Broadbeach. 2006 Queensland State Election
An election was held in the Australian state of Queensland on 9 September 2006 to elect the 89 members of the state's Legislative Assembly, after being announced by Premier Peter Beattie on 15 August 2006. The election saw the incumbent Labor government led by Premier Peter Beattie defeat the National-Liberal Coalition led by Lawrence Springborg and Bruce Flegg respectively, and gain a fourth consecutive term in office. Beattie thus became the first Labor Premier of Queensland to win four consecutive elections since William Forgan Smith did so in the 1930s. Had Beattie served out his fourth term, he would have become the second-longest serving Queensland Premier, after Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen. The Liberal National Party of Queensland (LNP) is a major political party in Queensland, Australia. It was formed in 2008 by a merger of the Queensland divisions of the Liberal Party and the National Party. Mudgeeraba is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. Based on the Gold Coast, the district has been held by both sides of politics over the course of its short history. The electorate covers the western suburbs and hinterland of the Gold Coast. It was created out of the southern half of the former district of Nerang by the 2001 redistribution. The 2009 Queensland state election was held on 21 March 2009 to elect all 89 members of the Legislative Assembly, a unicameral parliament. The election saw the incumbent Labor government led by Premier Anna Bligh defeat the Liberal National Party of Queensland led by Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg, and gain a fifth consecutive term in office for her party. Bligh thus became the first female Premier of any Australian State elected in her own right.
