Nerang was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1986 to 2001. The district was based in the southern part of the Gold Coast and named for the suburb of Nerang. Nerang, Queensland
Nerang is a town and suburb in the City of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. In the , Nerang had a population of 16,864 people. Geography The Nerang River flows through the locality from south to east, passing through the town. The river ultimately flows into the most southern part of Moreton Bay. Nerang has a small town centre in which banking and a range of other commercial and retail services are available. Of more prominence within the Division, is the development of a series of light industrial parks which house a diverse range of small and large business operations providing services such as panel beating, motor vehicle wrecking, a wide range of trades, printing and equipment hire services. The Liberal Party of Australia (Queensland Division), branded as Liberal Queensland, was the Queensland division of the Liberal Party of Australia until 2008. It was initially formed in October 1943 as the Queensland People's Party (QPP), which then absorbed the disbanded Queensland branch of the United Australia Party in 1944. In 1945, the QPP had an agreement with the newly formed Liberal Party, where in the "federal sphere", QPP would be the Queensland division of the Liberal Party and would run its candidates under the Liberal Party banner in federal elections. Ray Connor
Raymond Thomas "Ray" Connor (born 4 December 1954) is a former Australian politician. He was the Liberal member for Nerang in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1989 to 2001. Connor was born in Sydney, and was a businessman prior to his election. In 1992 he was appointed to the Coalition front bench as Shadow Minister for Business, Industry and Regional Development. Following the Coalition's 1995 election win, he became Minister for Public Works and Housing until 1997, when he left the ministry. The National Party of Australia – Queensland (NPA-Q), commonly known as Queensland Nationals, or the National Party of Queensland, was the Queensland-state branch of the National Party of Australia (NPA) until 2008. Tom Hynd
Thomas Simpson Hynd (6 July 1930 – 20 October 2011) was an Australian businessman and politician. He was a National Party member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly from 1986 to 1989, representing the electorate of Nerang. Hynd was born in Sydney, the son of a coalminer. He attended Chatswood Primary School, Mosman High School and Gore Hill Technical College. He trained as a master builder, and later opened TS Hynd Pty Ltd, a business specialising in electronic doors. He was a prominent business figure on the Gold Coast, and Alex Douglas claimed that "he installed probably half of the roller doors on houses that were built".
