Electoral District Of Maitland
Maitland is an New South Wales Legislative Assembly electoral districts, electoral district of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. The district encompasses the entirety of the City of Maitland. History Maitland was created in 1904, replacing Electoral district of East Maitland, East Maitland and Electoral district of West Maitland, West Maitland. With the introduction of proportional representation in 1920, it absorbed parts of Electoral district of Upper Hunter, Upper Hunter, Electoral district of Singleton, Singleton, Electoral district of Cessnock, Cessnock and Electoral district of Durham, Durham and elected three members. With the end of proportional representation in 1927, Maitland was split into the single-member electorates of Maitland, Upper Hunter and Cessnock. Members for Maitland Election results References

Jenny Aitchison
Jennifer Kathleen Aitchison is an Australian politician in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as member for Maitland for the Labor Party at the 2015 New South Wales state election. She is currently the Shadow Minister for Transport in the NSW Shadow Cabinet. Before her election Aitchison worked as a managing director of tourism and hospitality companies. Early years and background Aitchison was born in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory born to Jim and Anne O'Connor a library officer in the Commonwealth Public Service and also one of the first women to receive paid maternity leave for the birth of Jenny. Aitchison at around about eight years old started to follow in her mother's footsteps and commenced working at her local library as a volunteer. 1904 New South Wales State Election
The 1904 New South Wales state election was held on 6 August 1904 for all of the 90 seats in the 20th New South Wales Legislative Assembly and it was conducted in single-member constituencies with a first past the post voting system. For the first time, women were entitled to vote. Both adult males and females were entitled to vote, but not Indigenous people. A by-election was held for the New South Wales Legislative Assembly electorate of Maitland on 21 February 1981 following the resignation of Milton Morris () to unsuccessfully contest the federal seat of Lyne at the 1980 election. The 1956 New South Wales state election was held on 3 March 1956. It was conducted in single member constituencies with compulsory preferential voting and was held on boundaries created at a 1952 redistribution. The election was for all of the 94 seats in the Legislative Assembly. Milton Morris
Milton Arthur Morris AO (2 April 1924 – 27 February 2019) was an Australian politician who represented the Electoral district of Maitland between 3 March 1956 and 29 August 1980 for the Liberal Party. He helped pass several laws promoting automobile safety. Early life He was born in April 1924 at Mayfield, New South Wales, to Arthur Henry Morris, a railway guard, and his wife Janet Thomson. He was educated at Wickham Public School and Newcastle Junior Boys High School. Morris briefly joined the Royal Australian Navy in 1942 before transferring to the part-time Volunteer Defence Corps, where he served as an anti-aircraft gunner from 1942 until 1945. 1932 New South Wales State Election
The 1932 New South Wales state election was held on 11 June 1932. This election was for all of the 90 seats in the 30th New South Wales Legislative Assembly and it was conducted in single member constituencies with compulsory preferential voting. It was a landslide victory for the UAP/Country Party coalition of Bertram Stevens, which had a majority of 42 in the Assembly. The 29th parliament of New South Wales was dissolved on 18 May 1932 after the Governor, Sir Philip Game dismissed the Premier Jack Lang (see the crisis of 1931–32) and commissioned Bertram Stevens to form a caretaker government. Lang's government had a majority of 20 at the time of the dismissal. Walter Howarth
Walter Arthur Harrex Howarth (14 March 1882 – 12 July 1958) was an Australian politician who represented the Maitland for the United Australia Party (1932—1945) and the Liberal Party (1945—1956). He was deputy leader of the New South Wales Liberal Party from 1946 to 1954. Early life Howarth was born to parents Walter Arthur Howarth, a bootmaker, and Elizabeth Ellen Peetwn at Campbelltown. 1927 New South Wales State Election
The 1927 New South Wales state election to elect the 90 members of the 28th Legislative Assembly was held on 8 October 1927. During the previous parliament the voting system, which had been a form of proportional representation with multi-member seats and a single transferable vote ( modified Hare-Clark), was changed to single member constituencies with optional preferential voting. Severe divisions occurred within the Labor Party caucus in the four months prior to the election (see Lang Labor) and a caretaker government composed of the supporters of the Premier of New South Wales and party leader, Jack Lang was in power at the time of the election. Walter O'Hearn
Walter Finlay O'Hearn (16 October 1890 – 16 September 1950) was an Australian politician, elected as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly. O'Hearn was born in West Maitland and educated to primary level. He worked at East Greta mine, but lost an arm and leg in pit-top accident. He became a poultry farmer and was later secretary of a small mining company at Leuth Park. He married Catherine Ellen Walsh in 1918 and they had three daughters and two sons. O'Hearn was elected as a Labor Party member for the Maitland in 1920 and retained the seat until 1932. He died in Maitland Maitland is an English and Scottish surname. William Cameron (Australian Politician)
William Cameron (6 July 1877 – 6 May 1931) was an Australian politician. Life and career Cameron was born at Rouchel Brook, south-east of Scone, to grazier Donald Cameron and Elizabeth, ''née'' McMullen. After serving in the Boer War, he settled near Scone as a grazier and became active in the local community, serving on the Upper Hunter Pastoral Protection Board, the Graziers' Association and Upper Hunter Shire Council and supporting the New England New State Movement. He was well known in the district as a cricketer, a clever leg-spin bowler and big-hitting batsman. He toured Ceylon with a New South Wales cricket team led by Mick Waddy in 1914. The 1920 New South Wales state election was held on 20 March 1920. The 24th parliament of New South Wales was dissolved on 18 February 1920 by the Governor, Sir Walter Edward Davidson, on the advice of the Premier William Holman.
