Electoral District Of Guildford-Midland
Guildford was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia from 1901 to 1962. Known as Guildford-Midland from 1930 onwards, the district was located in the north-eastern suburbs of Perth. History First created for the 1901 state election, the district's first member was Hector Rason, who had already served a term as the member for South Murchison from 1897. Rason was Premier of Western Australia from August 1905 to May 1906. Rason was succeeded by William Johnson of the Labor Party. Johnson's tenure as a parliamentarian was a long one: he was the district's member from 1906 to 1917 and again from 1924 until his death in 1948. Johnson was succeeded at a by-election by Labor candidate John Brady. When the district was abolished, Brady transferred to the new seat of Swan at the 1962 state election. Guildford, Western Australia
Guildford is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, 12 km northeast of the city centre within the City of Swan. Guildford was founded in 1829 as one of the earliest settlements of the Swan River Colony. It is one of only three towns in the metropolitan area listed on the Register of the National Trust. History Guildford was established in 1829 at the confluence of the Helena River and Swan River, being sited near a permanent fresh water supply. During Captain Stirling's exploration for a suitable site to establish a colony on the western side of the Australian continent in the late 1820s, the exploration party of boats found a fresh water stream across the river from the site of Guildford which they called Success Hill. Guildford was originally the centre of the Swan River Colony before Perth succeeded in being the dominant location on the Swan Coastal Plain. A Guildford Town Trust was established in 1838, but ceased to function within a couple of years. It was rec ...

Electoral Districts Of Western Australia
The Western Australian Legislative Assembly is elected from 59 single-member electoral districts. These districts are often referred to as ''electorates'' or ''seats''. The ''Electoral Distribution Act 1947'' requires regular review of electoral boundaries, in order to keep the relative size of electorates within certain limits. Electoral boundaries are determined by the Western Australian Electoral Commission. Electoral districts are subdivisions of electoral regions for the Legislative Council and have approximately an equal number of electors. The last electoral redistribution was completed in November 2019 and was first applied in the 2021 state election. 1901 Western Australian State Election
Elections were held in the state of Western Australia on 24 April 1901 to elect 50 members to the Western Australian Legislative Assembly. It was the first election to take place since responsible government without the towering presence of Premier Sir John Forrest, who had left state politics two months earlier to enter the first Federal parliament representing the Division of Swan, and the first state parliamentary election to follow the enactment of women's suffrage in 1899. The Ministerial group, led by Forrest's nominated successor George Throssell, ran a half-hearted campaign for government, with Throssell saying in a policy speech that while he would continue to serve as Premier if required, "it was not the class of political life he desired, as it interfered too much with his leisure." Meanwhile, the Opposition had no clear leader, with the Parliamentary leader Frederick Illingworth and George Leake, who was seeking to return to Parliament in the election, both appar ...

Electoral District Of South Murchison
South Murchison was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia from 1897 to 1901. The district was located in the Western Australian outback. It existed for one term of parliament, and was created due to the large temporary population brought to the area by the brief Murchison gold rush. Its only member was Cornthwaite Rason, a Ministerial politician. In 1898, its major settlements were Mount Magnet and Lawlers, and it included the northern parts of the Mount Margaret goldfield. Premier Of Western Australia
The premier of Western Australia is the head of government of the state of Western Australia. The role of premier at a state level is similar to the role of the prime minister of Australia at a federal level. The premier leads the executive branch of the Government of Western Australia and is accountable to the Parliament of Western Australia. The premier is appointed by the governor of Western Australia. By convention, the governor appoints as premier whoever has the support of the majority of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly. In practice, this means that the premier is the leader of the political party or group of parties with a majority of seats in the Legislative Assembly (lower house). Since Western Australia achieved self-governance in 1890, there have been 31 premiers. Mark McGowan is the current premier, having been appointed to the position on 17 March 2017. History The position of premier is not mentioned in the constitution of Western Australia. From 1890 ...
