Chillagoe was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1912 to 1932. The district was based on the Atherton Tablelands, based on the former Electoral district of Woothakata. Chillagoe was replaced by Electoral district of The Tableland at the 1932 elections. Chillagoe, Queensland
Chillagoe is a rural town and locality in the Shire of Mareeba, Queensland, Australia. In the the locality of Chillagoe had a population of 251 people. It was once a thriving mining town for a range of minerals, but is now reduced to a small zinc mine and some marble quarries. Just out of town is the Chillagoe-Mungana Caves National Park containing limestone caves. There are between 600 and 1,000 caves in the Chillagoe-Mungana area. The caves, the spectacular karst landscape and the mining and smelting history are the main tourist attractions to the region. It has been stated by leading geologist Professor Ian Plimer that the Chillagoe region has the most diverse geology in the world. History Chillagoe was named by William Atherton in 1888. Country And Progressive National Party
The Country and Progressive National Party was a short-lived conservative political party in the Australian state of Queensland. Formed in 1925, it combined the state's conservative forces in a single party and held office between 1929 and 1932 under the leadership of Arthur Edward Moore. Following repeated election defeat it split into separate rural and urban wings in 1936. History It was created in 1925 as the result of a merger between the state's two conservative parties, the United Party (the Queensland branch of the Nationalist Party) and the Country Party, in an attempt to end a decade of Labor domination in the state. John O'Keefe (Australian Politician)
John O'Keefe (11 January 1880 – 27 January 1942) was an Australian politician. He was a Labor member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland, representing Chillagoe from 1926 to 1929 and Cairns from 1930 to 1942. He was Attorney-General from 1940 to 1941. O'Keefe died in office in 1942 and following his funeral at St Stephen's Cathedral was buried in Nudgee Cemetery Nudgee Cemetery & Crematorium is a large Roman Catholic cemetery at 493 St Vincents Road, Nudgee, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
