Giovanni Toti of Cambiamo!, a minor centre-right party, won handily re-election with 56.1% of the vote. His strongest challenger, Ferruccio Sansa, an independent supported by the centre-left coalition and the Five Star Movement, won 38.9%. Cambiamo! won 22.6%, followed by the Democratic Party (19.9%) and the League (17.1%). An election is a formal group decision-making process by which a population chooses an individual or multiple individuals to hold public office. 1980 Ligurian Regional Election
The Ligurian regional election of 1980 took place on 8 June 1980. Events The Italian Communist Party resulted the largest party, but lost some ground from five years before. 2010 Ligurian Regional Election
The Ligurian regional election of 2010 took place on 28–29 March 2010. The incumbent President Claudio Burlando of the centre-left Democratic Party (PD) faced Sandro Biasotti, backed by The People of Freedom (PdL) and Northern League Liguria. Biasotti was President of the Region from 2000 to 2005, when he was defeated by Burlando. The Union of the Centre (UdC), a traditionally centre-right political force, supported the centre-left candidate Burlando. The Ligurian regional election of 1995 took place on 23 April 1995. For the first time the President of the Region was directly elected by the people, although the election was not yet binding and the President-elect could have been replaced during the term. The Ligurian regional election of 1990 took place on 6 and 7 May 1990. Events Christian Democracy (Italy), Christian Democracy and the Italian Communist Party lost many votes, especially to Lega Nord Liguria, Ligurian Union and the Greens. After the election Christian Democrat Giacomo Gualco formed a government with the Italian Socialist Party and their centrist allies (Pentapartito).
