Eleanor Albert Bliss
Eleanor Albert Bliss (December 16, 1899 – June 27, 1987) was an immunologist who made significant advancements to the field of immunological research. She was also a dean and professor of biology at Bryn Mawr College. Life and education Eleanor Albert Bliss was born on December 16, 1899 in Jamestown, Rhode Island. Her family lived in Baltimore where her father, William J. Bliss (1867-1940) was a professor at Johns Hopkins University. Her mother's name was Edith Grantham Bliss (1870-1967) who was originally from Pennsylvania. The Bliss family lived in Baltimore for their children's entire childhood. Eleanor Bliss left Baltimore and received her undergraduate degree from Bryn Mawr College in 1921. While attending Bryn Mawr, she was a member of the swim team and water polo team. After graduating, she traveled throughout Europe for a year visiting England, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland, and Austria. Johns Hopkins University (Johns Hopkins, Hopkins, or JHU) is a private research university in Baltimore, Maryland. James Howard Brown
James Howard Brown (May 18, 1884, Jacksonville, Illinois – February 10, 1956, Baltimore, Maryland) was an American professor of bacteriology. He was the president of the American Society for Microbiology in 1931. Biography J. Howard Brown graduated in 1906 with a B.S. from Illinois College and in 1909 with an M.S. from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. In the department of comparative pathology of Harvard Medical School, he was from 1910 to 1917 an assistant and an Austin teaching fellow. In 1917 he received his Ph.D. in comparative pathology from Harvard University. In the department of animal pathology of the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research, he was from 1917 to 1919 an assistant and from 1919 to 1923 an associate. At Harvard and at the Rockefeller Institute, Theobald Smith was his mentor.
