Elazar Stern
Elazar Stern ( he, אֶלְעָזָר שְׁטֵרְן) is an Israeli politician and military general. He was a major general (res.) in the Israel Defense Forces, serving as Head of the Manpower Directorate, commander of the IDF Officers Training School, and Chief Education Officer, as well as a combat soldier and commander in the Paratroopers Brigade. He has served as a Member of Knesset for eight years, first, as a member of the Hatnuah party, and then in 2015 he joined the Yesh Atid, and since 2021 is serving as the Minister of Intelligence. Early life and family Stern was born in 1956 in Tel Aviv to Sara and Levi, both of whom are Holocaust survivors. He and his wife Dorit have five children and fourteen grandchildren. Witnesses in Uniform ( he, עדים במדים, edim b'madim) is a program according to which the delegations made of soldiers and veterans of the Israeli Defense Forces, members of the Israel Police and other uniformed services, and family members of the fallen soldiers are sent to Poland to commemorate the Holocaust and learn about it. It usually includes a Holocaust survivor who tells their story and guides from Yad Vashem. An officer candidate school (OCS) is a military school which trains civilians and Enlisted rank, enlisted personnel in order for them to gain a Commission (document), commission as Commissioned officer, officers in the armed forces of a country. The 35th Brigade ( he, חֲטִיבַת הַצַּנְחָנִים, ''Hativat HaTzanhanim''), also known as the Paratroopers Brigade, is an infantry brigade unit of paratroopers within the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), and forms a major part of the Infantry Corps. It has a history of carrying out special forces-style missions dating back to the 1950s. Paratrooper Brigade soldiers wear maroon berets with the infantry pin and reddish-brown boots.
