Elaine Kalman Naves
Elaine Kalman Naves (born 1947) is a Hungarian-born Canadian writer, journalist, editor and lecturer from Quebec. She has twice won the Quebec Writers' Federation Awards Mavis Gallant Prize for Non-Fiction, in 1999 for ''Putting Down Roots'' and in 2003 for ''Shoshanna's Story''. Her 2015 novel ''The Book of Faith'' was on the long list in 2016 for The Leacock Award. Biography Naves was born in Hungary in 1947, though her family moved to England in the wake of the Revolution of 1956. They eventually immigrated to Canada. Naves attended McGill University, where she studied history, as well as Bishop's University, where she studied education. Following graduation from each, she taught English and History at the secondary level, then served as a historian for the Centre d’Étude du Québec of Sir George Williams University. McClelland & Stewart Limited is a Canadian publishing company. It is owned by Penguin Random House of Canada, a branch of Penguin Random House, the international book publishing division of German media giant Bertelsmann. History It was founded in 1906 as McClelland and Goodchild by John McClelland and Frederick Goodchild, both originally employed with the "Methodist Book Room" which was in 1919 to become the Ryerson Press. Chantal Ringuet (born in Quebec City) is a Canadian scholar, award-winning author and translator. Biography After completing a Ph.D. in literary studies (2007, UQÀM, Honourable Mention), Ringuet has been a postdoctoral Fellow in Canadian studies at the University of Ottawa (2007-8) and earned a master's degree in International Management at l' ÉNAP (2009). Véhicule Press
The Vehicule Poets was a collective formed in Montreal in the 1970s by poets Endre Farkas, Artie Gold, Tom Konyves, Claudia Lapp, John McAuley, Stephen Morrissey and Ken Norris, who shared an interest in experimental American poetry and European avant-garde literature and art. While they were each distinct in their own writing, and published books as individuals, they were collectively involved in organizing readings, art events, and in controlling their own means of literary production through the development of a variety of periodicals and collective publishing ventures.
