Elachbutting Rock
Elachbutting Rock is a granite rock formation located approximately east of Bonnie Rock and approximately north east of Mukinbudin in the eastern Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. The rock is situated within Elachbutting Rock Nature Reserve and is part of the Great Western Woodlands. The large natural rock formation is similar in appearance to Wave Rock and has a number of large cavern areas with several gnamma holes on top. It is surrounded by natural bushland. Another feature is Monty's Pass, a tunnel that runs along the edge of the rock, caused by a rock slide where a large section of the outer layer slid off, possibly as the result of an earthquake. At the end of the tunnel is Kings Cave, an echoing cave. As with most of the granite outcrops in the Wheatbelt, Elachbutting Rock rises from the ancient Yilgarn Craton, the geological plate underlying much of the southern Western Australia, that is between 2.5 – 3.5 billion years in age. Granite
Granite () is a coarse-grained (phaneritic) intrusive igneous rock composed mostly of quartz, alkali feldspar, and plagioclase. It forms from magma with a high content of silica and alkali metal oxides that slowly cools and solidifies underground. It is common in the continental crust of Earth, where it is found in igneous intrusions. These range in size from dikes only a few centimeters across to batholiths exposed over hundreds of square kilometers. Bonnie Rock, Western Australia
Bonnie Rock is a small town in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. The town was once the terminus of the railway to Beacon. The name of the town originated from a rock formation that is situated close to the town, that was named by a sandalwood cutter. The townsite was gazetted in 1932. A short-lived newspaper in the 1930s included the name of the town in its title. The main industry in the town is wheat farming, with the town being a Cooperative Bulk Handling receival site. Mukinbudin, Western Australia
Mukinbudin is a small town in the north eastern Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, approximately east of Perth and north of Merredin near Lake Campion. It is the main town in the Shire of Mukinbudin. At the 2021 Australian census, Mukinbudin had a population of 336. The present Shire of Mukinbudin was settled by pastoralists who in the 1870s took up large leases in excess of to run sheep and by sandalwood cutters and miners en route to the goldfields. In 1910 the first of the farmers arrived to commence wheat growing on their blocks and it was some time before they added stock to what had been entirely a wheat growing enterprise. An extension of the Mount Marshall railway line to Mukinbudin and Lake Brown was approved in 1922 and opened in October 1923. The town site was gazetted in 1922. Wheatbelt (Western Australia)
The Wheatbelt is one of nine regions of Western Australia defined as administrative areas for the state's regional development, and a vernacular term for the area converted to agriculture during colonisation. It partially surrounds the Perth metropolitan area, extending north from Perth to the Mid West region, and east to the Goldfields–Esperance region. It is bordered to the south by the South West and Great Southern regions, and to the west by the Indian Ocean, the Perth metropolitan area, and the Peel region. Great Western Woodlands
The Great Western Woodlands is located in the southwest of Australia. The woodlands cover almost , a region larger in size than England and Wales. The boundary of the Great Western Woodlands runs from the Nullarbor Plain in the east to the Western Australian Wheatbelt in the west; from north of Esperance through to the inland mulga country and deserts that are found north of Kalgoorlie. The boundaries of this region were established by researchers from the Australian National University working with The Wilderness Society and are based on satellite data of the region's natural ecosystems and vegetation types. Wave Rock ( nys, Katter Kich) is a natural rock formation that is shaped like a tall breaking Wind wave, ocean wave. The "wave" is about high and around long. It forms the north side of a solitary hill, which is known as "Hyden Rock". Shire Of Westonia
The Shire of Westonia is a local government area in the eastern Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, about east of Perth, the state capital. Its seat of government is the small town of Westonia. Although the Shire of Westonia is located in the Wheatbelt region, it is at the eastern limit of land suitable for wheat growing. Yilgarn Craton
The Yilgarn Craton is a large craton that constitutes the bulk of the Western Australian land mass. It is bounded by a mixture of sedimentary basins and Proterozoic fold and thrust belts. Zircon grains in the Jack Hills, Narryer Terrane have been dated at ~4.27 Ga, with one detrital zircon dated as old as 4.4 Ga. The Murchison Province of the craton contains the oldest dated meteorite impact crater, at 2229 ± 5 Ma. Geology The Yilgarn Craton appears to have been assembled between ~2.94 and 2.63 Ga by the accretion of a multitude of formerly present blocks or terranes of existing continental crust, most of which formed between 3.2 Ga and 2.8 Ga. Harry Anstey
Harry Francis Anstey (24 July 1847 – 6 July 1927) was a metallurgy, metallurgist and gold Prospecting, prospector who led the prospecting expedition that discovered gold in the Southern Cross, Western Australia, Yilgarn, leading to the gold rush that established Western Australia's Kalgoorlie, Eastern Goldfields. Born in England in 1847, Anstey was educated at Rugby School, Rugby from 1863 to 1865. In 1877, he was living in Earl's Court, Kensington, Middlesex and working as a civil engineering, civil engineer; that year he married Edith Euphemia Carnegie.
