El Sendero Luminoso is the name of a rock climb at El Potrero Chico, Nuevo León, Mexico. A big wall sport-route, El Sendero Luminoso rises over 1500 ft (~450 m) up the front side of El Toro. El Potrero Chico is an internationally renowned rock climbing area in the Mexican state of Nuevo León, outside the town of Hidalgo, within Sierra del Fraile protected area. El Potrero Chico is a unique geological formation of limestone cliffs and spires, some as high as . Rock climbing There is a large range of different climbs, most of them in the 5.8 to 5.13 grade. Alexander Honnold (born August 17, 1985) is an American rock climber best known for his Free solo climbing, free solo ascents of Big wall climbing, big walls. Brad Gobright (June 16, 1988 November 27, 2019) was an American rock climber known for free solo climbing. Early life Gobright was born in Orange County, California, and began climbing when he was six. (This article was published in ''Rock and Ice'' issue 239 (January 2017) and republished online on November 28, 2019.) He dropped out of college in 2009, working odd jobs during winter and climbing during the rest of the year. Climbing career Gobright and Mason Earle made the first free ascent of ''The Heart Route'' on El Capitan in Yosemite National Park in 2015. Climbing Routes
A climbing route is a path by which a climber reaches the top of a mountain, rock, or ice wall. Routes can vary dramatically in difficulty and grade; once committed to that ascent, it can sometimes be difficult to stop or return. Choice of route can be critically important. Guidebooks, if available, are helpful in providing detailed diagrams and photographs of routes.
