El Salvador National Under-23 Football Team
The El Salvador national under-23 football team represents El Salvador in international football competitions during Olympic Games and Pan American Games. The team is controlled by the Salvadoran Football Federation. The selection is limited to players under the age of 23, except for three overage players. Olympic history At the 1968 CONCACAF Men's Pre-Olympic Tournament, El Salvador passed the first round with an aggregated score of 5–1 against Cuba. For the final round, the national team finished with an aggregate score of 4–1 against Trinidad and Tobago, three of them were scored by Juan Ramón Martínez. The Salvadoran Football Federation ( es, Federación Salvadoreña de Fútbol or ) is the official governing football organization in El Salvador and is in charge of the El Salvador national football team, and El Salvador national beach soccer team The federation is also in charge of the three tiers of domestic club competition, including the top-flight Primera División de Fútbol Profesional. In May 2010, FIFA briefly suspended teams and associated members from international competition on the grounds that the Salvadoran government had not acknowledged the authority of the Normalisation Committee set up to represent FESFUT. The association football (soccer) tournament at the 1984 Summer Olympics started on July 29 and ended on August 11, taking place throughout the United States. It was the first Olympic soccer competition in which officially professional players were allowed. Until then, the amateur-only rule had heavily favored socialist countries from the Eastern Bloc whose players were professionals in all but name. Raúl Alfredo Magaña Monzón (24 February 1940 – 30 September 2009) was a Salvadoran footballer and manager. He is regarded as one of the greats of Salvadoran football. Club career Magaña made his debut aged 18 against Deportivo Saprissa in Costa Rica, coming on as a sub for Humberto Pérez. He played for several Salvadoran top level sides, most prominently for hometown club FAS, and also had spells in Guatemala and Canada. He finished his career with Alianza in January 1975. A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. If scores are level after five pairs of shots, the shootout progresses into additional " sudden-death" rounds.
