''El Radio'' (2009) is Chris Garneau's second full-length album, released on US label Absolutely Kosher Records, and European label Fargo Records, in July 2009. Critical reception El Radio has proven extremely successful with Garneau's fans, though there are polar opinions from critics. Pitchfork Magazine ''Pitchfork'' (formerly ''Pitchfork Media'') is an American online music publication (currently owned by Condé Nast) that was launched in 1995 by writer Ryan Schreiber as an independent music blog. Schreiber started Pitchfork while working ...'s online review of the album was negative, claiming there was a severe "lack of passion." Chris Garneau
Chris Garneau (born November 5, 1982) is an American singer-songwriter and musician. Since releasing his debut album, '' Music for Tourists'', Garneau has toured throughout the United States, Canada, Brazil, Europe, and Asia. Garneau cites Jeff Buckley, Nina Simone, Nico, and Chan Marshall as influences. He currently resides in Los Angeles, California. His second full-length album, titled '' El Radio'' was released July 7, 2009, and his third full-length album, ''Winter Games'', was released in 2013. His fourth studio album, ''Yours'', was released in December 2018. Early life Garneau, a native of Boston, lived with his family in Paris during grade school, and later New Jersey before moving to New York City. Indie Pop
Indie pop (also typeset as indie-pop or indiepop) is a music genre and subculture that combines guitar pop with DIY ethic in opposition to the style and tone of mainstream pop music. It originated from British post-punk in the late 1970s and subsequently generated a thriving fanzine, Independent record label, label, and club and gig circuit. Compared to its counterpart, indie rock, the genre is more melodic, less abrasive, and relatively angst-free. Absolutely Kosher Records
Absolutely Kosher Records is an independent California-based record label founded in 1998 in San Francisco by Cory Brown. The label moved to Berkeley in 2002 and then to Emeryville in October 2006 when it partnered with Misra Records. The two labels remain separate entities. Absolutely Kosher has been listed on the RIAA website since 2005 as a distributed label of a reporting member (Fontana, the label's distributor). However, the label is not itself a member, and neither pay dues nor corresponds with the RIAA. On September 20, 2011, a statement from Cory Brown was placed on the label's website informing people that the label would cease to release any more records for the foreseeable future due to financial difficulties. Winter Games (album)
''Winter Games'' is the third studio album by American songwriter Chris Garneau. It was released in 2013 by Private Friend, Leaplay Music (Korea), Pocket Records (China) and in 2014 by Clouds Hill (Europe). Recording For this record Garneau asked his closest friends and family to write down their earliest memories of winter to serve as an inspirational base for the writing of these songs. Garneau recorded in a farm in Upstate New York. When asked about how different is the record compared to the other, Garneau answered "On ''Winter Games'' I feel like I really play music. There is much more freedom and experimentation with sound. There is much looser form and much more time and patience is given to explore instrumental and other ambient sound." Schreiber started Pitchfork while working at a record store in suburban Minneapolis, and the website earned a reputation for its extensive coverage of indie rock music.
