El Moro is an unincorporated community and a census-designated place (CDP) located in and governed by Las Animas County, Colorado, United States. The population of the El Moro CDP was 216 at the United States Census 2020. The Trinidad post office ( Zip Code 81082) serves the area. History The El Moro post office was established in 1876, and remained in operation until 1933. El Moro is a name derived from Spanish meaning "the Moor". After the company was established in 1892, Colorado Fuel & Iron took over the El Moro operation. During its years of operation, 8,063,076 tons of coal were shipped from El Moro on CF&I's narrow gauge railway, connecting them with the Colorado & Southern line. La Junta, Colorado
La Junta is a home rule municipality in, the county seat of, and the most populous municipality of Otero County, Colorado, United States. The city population was 7,322 at the 2020 United States census. La Junta is located on the Arkansas River in southeastern Colorado east of Pueblo. The city is home to Otero College. History La Junta (Spanish for ) was named for the fact it rested at the intersection of the Santa Fe Trail and a pioneer road to Pueblo. Springfield, Colorado
Springfield is a statutory town, the county seat of, and the most populous town in Baca County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,325 at the 2020 census. History Frank and Jim Tipton settled in Las Animas, Colorado in 1886. In 1888 or 1889, the Tiptons secured the title to 80 acres which was the original townsite. The Colorado and Southern Railway was an American Class I railroad in the western United States that operated independently from 1898 to 1908, then as part of the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad until it was absorbed into the Burlington Northern Railroad in 1981. The railway began as the consolidation of bankrupt railroads in 1898. The Colorado Central Railroad and Cheyenne and Northern Railway were brought together to form the Union Pacific, Denver and Gulf Railway in 1890.
