El Menzah Sports Palace
El Menzah Sport Palace ( ar, قصر الرياضة بالمنزه) is an indoor sports arena situated in El Menzah, a district in the north of Tunis. It is located in the heart of the Olympic City of El Menzah, near the Stade El Menzah. History Built on the occasion of the 1967 Mediterranean Games opened by president Habib Bourguiba, the arena was used primely for the volleyball competition. The 5,500-seat enclosure hosted matches of the 2005 World Men's Handball Championship as well as those of the African handball nations championships organized in Tunisia (1974, 1981, 1994, 2006). The hall also hosts political meetings and music concerts, the first of which were those of Umm Kulthum in 1968. The arena usually hosts volleyball, basketball, handball, judo, fencing, wrestling and other games and tournaments with high attendance. Team Handball
Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The goals are surrounded by a zone where only the defending goalkeeper is allowed; goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the zone or while "diving" into it. The XIV Mediterranean Games ( ar, ألعاب البحر الأبيض المتوسط 2001), commonly known as the 2001 Mediterranean Games, were the 14th Mediterranean Games held in Tunis, Tunisia, from 2-15 September 2001, where 2,991 athletes (1,972 men and 1,019 women) from 23 countries participated. There were a total of 230 medal events from 23 different sports. France won the most gold medals in the competition (40) while Italy had the greatest medal haul overall with 136 in total. Mediterranean Games
The Mediterranean Games is a multi-sport event organised by the International Committee of Mediterranean Games (CIJM). It is held every four years among athletes from countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea in Africa, Asia and Europe. The IHF Men's Handball World Championship has been organized indoor by the International Handball Federation since 1938. In the twenty-seven tournaments held, eleven nations have won the title. The 2014 FIVB Volleyball World League was the 25th edition of the annual men's international volleyball tournament, played by 28 countries from 23 May to 20 July 2014.
