''El Madmo'' is the self-titled debut album from Norah Jones's tongue-in-cheek indie-rock band El Madmo. A side project for jazzy singer/songwriter Norah Jones, El Madmo features Jones on guitar and vocals, bassist/vocalist Daru Oda, and drummer Andrew Borger (of Jones' backing group the Handsome Band). Theatrical and often humorous (garishly glam makeup, wigs, and costumes are de rigueur), each member of El Madmo goes by a stage name, with Oda as El, Jones as Maddie, and Borger as Mo—hence the band name. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". Blues rock is a fusion music genre that combines elements of blues and rock music. Team Love is an independent record label based in New Paltz, New York, founded by Conor Oberst and Nate Krenkel in 2003. It has released albums by several other recording artists. Team Love also released the documentary film by Roy Germano, The Other Side of Immigration. Andrew Borger is an American drummer. Biography Born in Littleton, Colorado, Andrew Borger went to UC Berkeley and played extensively in the San Francisco Bay Area club scene before being recognized by Tom Waits and later Norah Jones.
